It doesn't get rid of the good generals.
If they force anyone out it's either because they've broken the rules and are forced to retire, they've exceeded the mandatory statute of either age or service (30 years of active service or age 60), or they were prosecuted and kicked out.
Granted, some of the services are reducing their top-heavy ranks, but by attrition, not by force.
Those are the only times they "get rid" of anyone, much less generals.
And.. who's to say they're the 'good' ones?
Don't believe everything you read...

Not always. And there's no evidence that we have "gotten rid of" the good generals. The signs are that the good generals are disgusted and taking retirement. Any general officer has at least 20 years in uniform these days, so if he (or she) gets fed up, the general can hang up the green suit and start to live.

Which 'good generals' are we 'getting rid of?'
General Pace has decided that it is time to retire. IMO - he has every right to do so as he has already given us a lot of loyal service.
Believe it or not - people do retire from the military because they feel that they have 'done enough.'

Sometimes a good general is like a good baseball manager. People don't always appreciate what they've done until AFTER they've moved on.

Yes it does have a nasty habit of that, but Pace although an honorable man fell into the political machine of Washington and the Iraq war has stuck to him in a negative way.

Simple a "good" general will not follow illegal orders! This can't be tolerated. A "good" general might refuse to drop nukes on Iran! Can't have that!
