The definition of an Atheist is one who claims "there is no God" But to make an absolute statement you must have absolute knowledge.
Does the atheist know how many grains of sand make up the sea shores of the world? No. How about the amount of hairs on their forearm, NO
Thomas Edison said that we don't know 1% of ANYTHING in the universe. But lets say I give any atheist the benefit of having a whopping 25% knowledge of EVERYTHING in the universe, to have 100% knowledge you would know what was inand under every rock inthe universe. I then ask, is it possible that ample evidence for the existence of God exists in the other 75% knowledge you just do not know about yet??
If you are HONEST you are FORCED to say...yes. (because you do not have all knowledge) Therefore the atheist cannot, by the very definition, exist. You're agnostic.
So you must state, "With the limited knowledge I currently have, I believe there is no God." This makes you an agnostic. Atheist, you do not exist.

Hey Bad Squirrol...
You do not need 100% to know God exists, you just need 1%. Think about it, use that brain... if I claim there is NO GOLD IN CHINA, I must know what is under every rock etc. but to claim THERE IS GOLD IN CHINA, I only need one tiny piece of gold in China to make my claim valid...
Think about it.

Soleil Noir,
Your logical answer is illogical, and yet completely unrelated.
Think about it. You are trying to compare matter with non-matter, using a STRAWMAN by puting two different known shapes together a square and a circle. Material objects, aka. MATTER.
God is not made of matter as you and I or a square.
You answer is FLAWED. Try again.

P.S. I declare we should have a day set aside for atheists, if they do so exist...
Let's see, the Bible says that "the FOOL hath said in his heart, there is no God."
So how about APRIL 1st ?????

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Again to all those smartie pants that say they do not need 100% knowledge to say there is no God... Have you graduated from kindergarten??
Use your HEAD... for me to say THERE IS NO CHEESE IN MY FRIDGE, I need to know what is in every drawer, under and in every piece of food... and if just ONE piece of cheese is in there... I AM WRONG.... BUT for me to say there IS cheese in my fridge I ONLY need to know that there is a small slice on a sandwich. Duh. Come on you "free-thinkers" use your motto...and think.
You do not know if God exists, and you have no evidence that He does not. Therefore without 100% knowledge of the universe and any other possible dimension.... you are AGNOSTIC.

Let's see, Bad Squirol
take a glass eye and take a real eye.
one is made of one non working part, the other made of 2 million WORKING parts
One, cannot see, the other can discern candle light from 14 miles away.
Which one was MADE!
Duh, the glass one was made but the real one just happened by chance... The glass one shows amazing design, someone had to paint that after all, and we know it was made, though it just sits there and can do NOTHING but look pretty... but the real eye, the one that contains 40 MILLION nerve endings, with millions of processes, seeing black and white and color... that just happened by accident....WHAT?? Oh so much for logic.

Oh yes Professor Dawkins, I knew his name would come up... and his book touted as AWESOME.... HAHA
Dawkins can write what he wants, he professes no evidence for God because he does NOT WANT to look at any or even consider there is a God. Same reason a theif cannot find a cop!!
But did you see the AWESOEM video, From a frog to a prince" where Dawkins is asked a question to give ONE example of an evolutionary process that has been seen to add INFORMATION to the genome.... and waht did Professor Dawkins say...??? He said this ...
...
...
.... NOTHING... for 22 seconds. Then asked the camera be turned off while he though about it. Then asked the camera to be turned on. Then DIDN'T even answer the question, just kept repeating "if we were there," blah blah.
Then later said he was surprised because he realized at the time of the question, it was creationists! So what Dawkins... is this so you can formulate an "answer"
I wish I could talk to that guy...

You're absolutely right! The very meaning of "atheism" is "the non-existence of God"; it is the bold assertion that there is no God, period. Only a complete moron would say, matter of factly, "there is no God", considering how little we actually know about the cosmos. It would be better to simply claim not to BELIEVE in God.

That's only when the definition of atheism leaves out the element of faith. As is argued on here all the time, atheism is just another faith. It examines what evidence we do have (the 25%) then, makes a claim about the evidence we don't (the 75%). And becuase you cannot positively affirm the non-existence of God, due to insufficent knowledge, at that point they relegate the unknown to faith, though they do so unwittingly.
And I've always maintained what you've just said. Any truly honest skeptic would consider themselves an agnostic.

By your very example, you exclude yourself from Christianity,as you must believe Jesus is the only way. You CANNOT. You haven't seen the proton on the edge of the universe,so you DO NOT have absolute knowledge that Zeus doesn't also exist. You exclude yourself from Islam, because you CANNOT say for certainty there is only one god. You are right, all you have to do is find one god to prove there are gods. So you are a deist, your own argument is an admission that you are not christian. How could you possibly be Christian? You CANNOT rule out other gods. That sort of behavior tends to piss off the christian god. Thanks, you destroyed the existence of Christianity with your assertion

Everybody keeps forgetting that the absolutist argument goes both ways.
Theists: So far, there is no way to prove the existence of God through science as we know it.
Atheists/Agnostics: So far, there is no way to prove the absence of God through science as we know it.
So people: stop bashing each other. You either believe or don't believe - it's your choice. When something's not scientifically provable, you gotta go by faith alone. Face it. God cannot be put into a test tube.
PS - Admittedly (and unfortunately), atheists can and do exist. There are many dictionary definitions pasted around here. I trust you've seen enough of them by now, so I'll spare you this last : )

Actually you are wrong. You tripped yourself up in your own wording' " The definition of an Atheist is one who claims "there is no God" " Claim. To make a statement based on ones opinion. I can claim I'm the pope till the cows come home, but it doesn't make it true. Besides which you are incorrect in your definition. The actual definition of an atheist is; a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings. It's all a matter of belief, and the people get that and stop trying to prove one another wrong, tha better we'll all be.

Interesting argument, however, incorrect. An agnostic is someone who claims it's not possible to know whether God exists or not, and therefore doesn't take a position either way.
An atheist takes the position that God does not exist. To make an absolute statement does not require absolute knowledge.

Nope. The first idea that to make an absolute statement you must have absolute knowledge is false. I can state that black is white. I would be wrong, but I still make the statement.
But, if you use your reasoning, then theists cannot exist because they can not make absolute statements that there is a God. So, everyone is an agnostic.

Your logic is seriously flawed, especially that crap about gold in China. Your analogy is like comparing apples to oranges. Here's a proper analogy: You cannot prove the existence of God any more than you can prove the existence of an invisible pink unicorn that lives on Neptune. Likewise you cannot disprove the same entity.

Your definition of an atheist is wrong. An atheist is a person who does not believe in god.
If you insist that absolute knowledge is needed before a person can be an atheist, then I will insist that you will need absolute knowledge before you can be a christian. You cannot prove the existance of god therefore you cannot be a christian.

Oh, F'ing hell..
Do you know this would apply to you xians as well?! You cannot say for certainty that your god exists, so that would make you an agnostic too. But, NO! You could NEVER admit to that because then it would mean denying your god exists and thus comitting the ultimate sin.
You can take your cut and paste and scrap it. THINK for a second before you post such drivel!
