Oh brother.
So don't freaking eat whatever it is that has you so damn scared.
Let me guess, you're really Michael Morrison or Oliver Stone? Come on, fess up.
And Americans should be capitalized.

Well as you can see by the ill-informed responses you've gotten here, for the most part they do not know. The average person does not have the knowledge it takes to make an informed decision about the food he/she eats. Then there are those who have heard, but would rather stick their head in the sand, not believing that their own government would not protect them from bad food. Also it requires effort to learn about, we lose some folks there. Then we have those brain-washed from youth that the government is ALWAYS right, that they, the USDA, FDA, and the CDC have nothing but their best interests in mind. Then there are those who just feel hopeless: What can they do, they don't know.
The fact of the matter is everyone in this country who eats from the grocery store is being poisoned. Nothing fast acting, nothing that will kill the majority today or even tomorrow, but slow poisoning. Aspartame springs to mind.
Splenda is another. MSG is another favorite. Not the naturally occurring MSG but the chemical stew cooked up in the lab. Then there are the 15 thousand chemicals legally added to food that the food processors DO NOT have to list on the ingredients label. How about the meat? Well there we have steroids, hormones, antibiotics and tainted fed ingested by the animals YOU eat. (Not to mention the fecal matter, completely legal as parts per million goes) Veggies, ok, herbicides, pesticides, and let's not forget GMO's. You are all being used as human guinea pigs for Monsanto, Dow, and the other chemical companies producing GMO's, which at latest count is contained in 60% of the food YOU buy at the grocery store. These are the same GMO foods banned by nearly every other country on the planet.
Why does all tested breast milk in this country contains jet fuel? Why has the rate at which brain tumors and brain cancer occur jumped off the scales since the introduction of Aspartame into the american diet? What are the links between diet and Alzheimer's?
I would hope more people wake up and begin to investigate what's happening and who's making billions of dollars as YOU ARE being poisoned.

American food companies do not poison us. Just the opposite. The food companies are held to a very high standards. We have the fewest outbreaks of disease than anywhere in the world. If you are talking about preservatives and other additives and they worry you, DON'T EAT THEM. I have been eating American food, a huge variety for 62 yrs. and have never had a problem,

Because most of us don't have time/money/enough land to grow a full vegetable garden, raise our own livestock for milk and butchering, can our own fruits and vegetables, etc. We do what we can, which includes buying food from grocery stores. Most "organic" foods are so expensive, people can't afford to buy them. I have two young kids and a husband, and if I bought everything organic/free range/etc., I'd be bankrupt! I try to find meats that say "all natural" "no hormones" etc, and I wash fruits /vegetables thoroughly, but sometimes I just have to buy stuff that's "poisonous" as you'd put it. :)

that is a very open ended question. do you mean poison as in all the unnatural additives and preservatives? I really think it is a matter of conveniences. People here are mostly lazy. Would much rather eat quick and easy than healthy.

IDK what everyone else is talking about, but I'm with you.
Some of the things the food mfgrs. get away with is SO scary! Granted, we don't have outbreaks and whathaveyou like other countries, but we're NOT other countries and we cannot compare ourselves to them.
I am horrified to think how unclean the food production plants are, the slaughterhouses, the dairy farms. Just sick and gross...and people actually consume it like it's good.
It's not that expensive to eat more fruit and vegetables. It just takes a little more time...which to me is worth it. I care about my health.
Since reading and researching, I have tremendously cut down on processed foods. The only packaged products that I really eat are from Kashi. I actually trust them. For now. LOL. ;-)

Well you have the choice not to buy that food but live on fresh fruit, vegetables and select 'real' meat instead of that ground up mince nonsense. If people were denied that choice you'd hear more complaints about it than those who currently do so.

"food" comapnies in the US do the farthest thing from we have a very controlled food source in the states. look at our disease and viral food borne cases. very insignificant compared to say every other country in the world.
