I think I'm pregnant, though won't tell co-workers for another 3 months...
What can I tell co-workers --- a reason why I wouldn't be drinking ?

okay, most of the answers you've already gotten are pretty good, but something tells me they might not work, IF i'm assuming correctly ... the reason you are asking is because maybe your co-workers know you drink, and to JUST SAY NO would be out of character for you, and you don't want to tip them off that you're not drinking because of maybe some more obvious reason ... like you're pregnant. and they probably know that some excuse like, you're on some kind of medication, or you're driving won't fly either, cause they know you better than that.

so, my suggestion to you is to simply say ... "You know, I'm just not feeling to great tonight. I should probably pass, cause I don't want to feel more sick." but make sure that you "act sick" through out the day, so that when you say this at the office party, it will make sense.

not that you owe anyone an explanation, like others have mentioned, but still, i understand you don't want to be suspect.

also, you could say you decided to do a low carb diet and David Kirsch's diet requires you don't drink alcohol. you don't have to be any size or weight to want to be on a low carb diet. or you can just say that you wanted to lose an extra five lbs, if you can afford to lose them, and you're gonna cut out alcohol for a week. see how it goes.

good luck.

How about, just simply declining or asking for a glass of soda or ice water? As long as you are walking around carrying something, most people do not care ... the less you say, and discretely move away, the less people will notice.

If you end up with a drink in hand, just hold it. You don't have to drink it. When it is convenient, no one is looking, set it down and leave it behind, or go dump out the alcohol and fill it with water.

I was going to say driving. Or you could say you don't feel up to it. Or you could pour Coke in a cup and claim you're drinking a rum and Coke. Or drink club soda and lime and they'll think it's a vodka drink. Or just tell them you're not in the mood for a drink that day. And that you have to be up bright and early the next day. Or your stomach's not been feeling good and just say I'll pass today.

Tons of ways to get around it. (And Congrats?)

Tell everyone that you want to make sure everyone gets home safe. Look up a recent news story about someone driving drunk and getting hurt and say that it really effected you and you want to make sure that everyone is safe. Odds are, if you show up late, everyone will already be too tipsy to notice that you aren't drinking. Don't make a big deal out of it and you will be find.

You're driving. That's the best excuse.

Otherwise, use a clever "fake out" - get some seltzer or club soda or tonic with lime or lemon - nobody will know you're not drinking a vodka tonic unless you tell them!

Driving is always the best. However, I use this one all the time, but in my case it is true. Allergies - really!!!

Don't drink beer because of the barley. Don't drink wine/wine coolers/champange because of the sulfites - causes asthma. Don't drink rye because of the rye. Don't drink vodka because of the potato. (Rum is about the only thing I can say I am not allergic to - thank god because that is sugar.)

I like what BlueSea said. Say that you're the DD. That should get you out of drinking. Of say that you have to be up early the next morning, and alcohol always keeps you awake.

I wouldn't even mention or draw attention to not drinking. Get a mixed drink without the alcohol, maybe an oj and 7up with a drink stick in it. What business is it whether one drinks or not? If anybody offers to buy you one, hold up your nada and say no thanks, I am sticking with this one.

Say any of the following:
Have headache
Are driving
Have something to do later
Have to meet family
or just say you're not in the mood tonight

Maybe carry a non-alcoholic drink around and let people assume it alcoholic. If pressured tell them you are driving.
