-Or am I just more blessed than most...I have a loving family, a great career, a nice home, food on the table, shoes on my feet.
-Even the poor in America live better than the middle class in many other countries....most have their basic needs met.
-Is this not a blessing from God?

So, why do so many fundamentalists think we live in such a terrible world? Why are they full of doom and gloom? Why do they not have joy? Has their God not blessed them the way he has blessed so many others?

Read their posts to the questions about pessimism, moral decay, and the state of our world. Their take on life is very depressing and creepy. Especially considering it is coming from people who are supposed to be filled with Christ's love.

The God of my heart is a God of love, mercy, compassion, kindness and joy....the God they seem to emulate with their negative attitude does not seem to be a good God at all.

If Christians are to be Christ-like, and you are a person of despair..

Well they claim to know THE TRUTH. And are so busy condemning others who don't accept their truth that they don't have time to become involved in life. And so they "pray for you" as a disrespectful affirmation of thier claim to THE TRUTH.

Most thinking Christians disregard the fundagelical cancer that plagues Christianity and enjoy the presence of God in the midst of their efforts t lead a good life. Consequently they derive a life well lived rather than trying to supress their sexuality, feelings, illnesses, and inability to lead a "perfect life."

Fundamentalists of any faith are spiritual lepers are carriers of Can't Understand Normal Thinking Syndrome . . . the most virulent form of this syndrome taking root in the US right-wing, Republican Christofacists.

In this way, fundamentalists are like any other group that takes a long view. What is fun and seems great now may be setting us up for problems in the long run. Remember, they're thinking about eternity.

Part of how great things are has to do with perspective. If you're a little kid eating candy, it's all great--until you get sick to your stomach (an hour) and hurt or get fat and other kids make fun of you (a year) or you get older and have heart problems or diabetes (40 years).

Getting a shot hurts, sometimes a lot, but having the flu or rabies or HPV will hurt longer. Some of us put up with a little pain, and little is relative (think football players in training), for a longer time of happiness.

Some people can't or won't take the long view of anything and some don't believe in eternity. To them, those who plan and sacrifice in this moment seem despairing.

I guess that I am doomed to a life of happiness and bliss because I know where I am going and who will take me there.
The world is fast going down the tubes and eventually gated communities and money won't protect your family. A lot of wealthy people died in the twin towers..
But don't think that I am not happy personally. My happines is in Jesus Christ my LORD and I am confident in his plan for my life. He might even cut my life short to save me from suffering here when the bombs start exploding.. But I am happy in Jesus..

2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
2Pe 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

My husband and I have more joy and livelihood living for God that we have ever had. We are truly blessed with what we have because not a lot of people have much. Just because you don't see us in person doesn't mean we are forever in the doomsday mentality trap. But we are thinking time is short, live life to the fullest, loving God and one another (as John says in bible).

I've heard the other argument - Why are you all so happy? What's up with the smiles?

And our answer is: Jesus.

Thanks for asking. May God Bless You richly!

So tell me please, did Christ Own a House? A Car? (ok horse/ars) Fine Clothes? Steady Job? Food ?(Much less a Table) A Great Family? Seems to me that Ur kinda tied up into this Worldly System instead of Reality??? U know when the young Ruler came to Christ in Luke 18:18-25 and asked what he had to do to be "Saved" Christ said to give up everything to the poor & come follow Him! In Mat. 5 we see Christs' thoughts from the "Sermon on the Mount" ;

1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him,

2 and he began to teach them.

3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of
righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Funny V.12 says our Reward / Happiness is to be in Heaven, not here on earth!!! So, Enjoy Ur life here as U are able, it doesn't last nearly as long as an Eternity in Heaven though. John

As a Christian I am not a "gloom and doom" preacher- on the contrary, I spread the "good news" about the fulfillment of God's promises to others. :0)

I agree that life is hard enough without concentrating on what is wrong with it. I enjoy my loved ones and my health, even my shoes (they are like my children! :-p) and my cat! So I do take to heart the scripture that tells us that God is "a happy God" and try to reflect that as often as I can.

Jesus also overthrew the tables of the money lenders in great anger, proved the Pharisees were hypocrites, taught us to care for the poor. Turning a blind eye to the evil around you does not further Jesus' cause.

P.S. I am not a fundie, so far as I know. I'm not sure what a fundie is here at Y/A, since every Christian is called one by a certain element.

I'm not unhappy at all. I do not set my affections on the things of this world, the only blessings I hope for are spiritual ones.
Why should I or anyone call out "Peace, peace" when there is none here?
You will, I hope see the references to the verses.

Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Your true blessings are bought with his blood and they are not temporary nor materialistic. What does this say about my God? That he loved us so much to pay with his torment and death our penalty of sin that we might gain eternal blessings.
