The revenue generated by taxes on tabacco is less than the costs of treating diseases directly caused by smoking and the 'relaxing' and 'socially stimulating effects' can be provided by substitutes with much less negative effects. This isn't a rant but a serious question: What, if any, are/is the positive(s) benefit of smoking?

By the way I don't smoke (never have, never will) but just want to see if any smoker at all can defend their habit.

I stress the point that the benefit must be something which could not be done without smoking.

None positive benefits, because smoking will progressively pollute your lungs, will decrease your appetite progressively, you will not be able to do any kind of exercises because the lung capacity will be diminished and heart capacity to oxygenate blood will be diminished(for this cause you may also suffer heart problems and eventually causing a heart attack causing death as only result of smoking), can cause ulcer because of the lack of appetite also you can get throat cancer or lung cancer for excessive smoking and nicotine on cigarettes cause not only addiction but is one of the elements that trigger cancer!

The only effect that is caused and taken as "positive" is the temporaly sensation of relaxation but his side effect is addiction because everytime you will need more to feel relaxed so that "positive" effect will turn negative!

Hope this answer helps to solve your doubt related to smoking in the best way possible and unfortunately smoking is not good for anybody's health, by the way I'm not smoker too!

See ya!

There is no benefits of smoking...do not do it, it's probably one of the stupidiest thigns to do. If you are pressured into smoking, try to say no. If that doesn't work, then try to make up an excuse before hand. Think of excuses that you can use that can help in that situation. If you have a Parol officer, then u can say something like: "Nah man, i can't take it b/c my PO can come any minute and i can be screwed." Or if u go to a therapist then u can say,:"Dude, i can't..my therapist is wacked and does suprise checks and she can show up any minute." Just make up excuses before hand. Chances are, if ur in a group of 5+ people, ur most likely not the only one who doesn't want to smoke. Just say NO!

No. There are no benefits of smoking cigarettes. The reason it makes your voice different is because it damages your vocal cords and respiratory system. DON'T smoke while you're pregnant, it can cause birth defects including brain damage.

Of course there are positive benefits, but not for the smoker. Revenue realized from sale of tobacco products puts billions of dollars into the hands of the corporations that own the products.

I think that the obvious answer to this question is that there are no benefits of smoking. I smoke; however, I think that it is a terrible habit to start and there is nothing good about it.

I don't know of any unless you consider that people don't want to visit your house because it smells like smoke or you can do all the driving because nobody will ride with a smoker, as benefits...............

The only benefit that I have heard of is that it kills germs in your mouth (as told to me by my dentist) which may promote better dental hygeine...but the down side, may turn your teeth yellow...
