A few Atheists are here because some of them are spiritual. Many follow a philosophy like the Tao or the Dharma. Those guys are usually pretty cool to talk to.
The vast majority of Atheists are here to try to turn you into one of them. And a large portion of those are very obnoxious.
They use arguments like "this Q&A is ABOUT R&S not FOR R&S and we're here to talk ABOUT how much R&S sucks."
Either way they're here and they're not going away time soon. They bother me because they are mostly pricks who can't seem to think about religion outside of the Bible themselves so they are just another form of Christian to me.
They like to bandy about scientifc or anthropological theories many which are outdated by a decade or more. Being an anthropologist, I've noticed it over and over again. I really don't bother correcting them anymore since they are as obtuse as their Christian brethren.
However not a single one of them has presented anythng that even rattles my beliefs, since science doe not yet have the tools or procedures adequate enough to confirm or deny the existence of a god. No doubt sometimes their arguments are reasonable but the faith-forming experiences I've had are even better.
But kind of like evangelical Christians, they think they know better than you about ... nearly everything and are just as loathsome. Personally, I'd rather have cockroaches.

I am a pagan and a Taoist and an atheist. Don't forget that spirituality does not equal religion. And not all spiritual philosophies involve a deity. Think outside the box.
Aside from that, I actually am interested in the things Christians in particular say to try to convert people, because I have children and I fully expect Christian children to say these things to them when they find out my kids aren't Christian (it happened to me when I was younger, and oddly enough still happens).
So, I want to have thought about the Christian point of view and their arguments, so I can give a well-thought-out response to my children. I want to be able to clearly articulate what I think, because my ability to answer their questions may be important in my having credibility with my own children.
So I've been in forums like this for years now, and I'm really glad I did. Not only has it driven me further from Christianity than I ever thought I could be, but I think I can explain my views very well to my children, when they ask. I'm even keeping file of FAQ's.

aTHIESTS are here because we can talk about religion and spirituality. It is clear that your ignorance hinders you. Spirituality isn't exclusive to religion. People without god can be spiritual.
By the way - your caps lock key is broken. And another thing.. it's athEIst.
Here's a quarter.. go buy a clue.

Well, have you ever considered that people embrace education? I am here because I know a great deal about CHristianity, and I am an atheist. I want to learn about other religions and enlighten when I can.

They are here because 1) bad stuff that keeps happening as if there is no securing justice around them 2) they are disappointed like hell that they are actually crying for help, but too proud to admit it 3) they don't know or havent experienced anything that they could not explain.

Atheism itself is a religion. Also, you can be spiritual without worshiping some form of a god or higher presence.
One person's god is not superior to another person's lack of a god.
I would hate to see this erupt into a "my god is better than your god (or lack of god)" argument. Tolerance is the one thing all beliefs should have in common.
Have a nice day.

Who better to present spiritual truths and concepts to?
Preaching to the choir may be easier, but no challange!

Some are here because they're insane. Some are here because they have nothing better to do with their time.
