Have you ever found anything that you had lost after asking for St. Anthony's help and intercession? Are you doing anything special today to honor this great man of God? Starting a Novena, perhaps?

Here are some ideas:

Thank you Father K for this question.

He finds things for me all the time.

By the way, I'm one of the lost that he found. Through his prayers he brought me to Christ at a time when I had no idea of who St. Anthony was.

Today we had mass in honor of St. Anthony (worshiping God of course and not Anthony - for all our protestant friends), we blessed a new statue of St. Anthony (we didn't have one - and no, we don't worshp it either). We kissed a relic of his, and we distributed blessed bread to remember Anthony's love for the poor.

Did you know...?

The reason why St. Anthony is the patron of lost objects has to do with an event that happened in his life. He and a couple of friars were in a hermitage and one of the friars decided one night that he would leave the Order of Friars Minor. So, he snuck out and took with him Anthony's copy of the Bible to sell (if you know anything about books in the middle ages, you know they were not cheap). Upon waking up and finding out what happened, Anthony prayed for the brother, that he would return and repent of the sin of stealing. The brother did just that. He came back to the hermitage and gave Anthony the copy of the Bible back. So, Anthony is the patron of lost objects because he is also the patron of lost souls.

Obviously you can see why I love this story and the connection between the lost souls and the lost objects.

Peace and Goodness

I love St. Anthony -- he has bailed me out of many a scrape involving lost keys, documents, and important items. He's also done a couple of miracles in finding stuff that's been lost by UPS or the Post Office, and I can always count on him to get packages or letters where they're going on time.

He's also known as the "Wonderworker," and I believe that his intercession has been the cause of some unexpectedly happy outcomes to situations that didn't appear to be headed that way. St. Anthony is a wonderful guy and deserving of all the best on his feast day.

I like to make a donation to a food pantry or other charitable organization in his honor. There's a custom known as "St. Anthony's Bread," in which food or money is given to the poor as a thank-you for favors received from this great saint, and I think that's a perfect way to honor him.

God bless, and have a great St. Anthony's Day!

Well, being a Californian, I like to honor St Anthony by relfecting on the visit to the mission named in his honor.

As part of Calfornia history, all schools study the missions. When my girls studied them ,we visited many of the 21 California Missions and still do to this day.

Mission San Antonio de Padua is located in the beautiful pastoral location in the valley of the San Antonio River along the Santa Lucia Mountains and surrounded by oak trees. It has always been my favorite.

Mission San Antonio de Padua was founded by Father Junipero Serra on July 14, 1771. Third in the mission chain, it was named after St. Anthony, who was laid to rest in Padua, Italy.

The current church was completed in 1813. The brick facade is original. This is quite beautiful and amazing that it has survived.

The church was restored by the landmarks club from 1903-1907. W.R. Hearst funded further restoration and reconstruction of the quadrangle on original foundations between 1948-1949. The mission has not been earthquake retrofitted.

If anyone would like to visit the missions or read about them, here is a website:

"Tony, Tony, look around. Something's lost and can't be found."

Yes! Our house was for sale and sold very quickly. The market was booming and houses were ALL selling quickly, so it made it difficult for us to find a house to buy.

One day I was so frustrated at not finding the right house after weeks of searching, (and time was running short) so I put my kids in the car and said, "Anthony! Our new house is lost. Help us find it."

We drove around and saw a "for sale by owner" sign that had not been there the day before. I pulled up in front of that house and had the sense immediately that this was OUR house. And I told the kids, "THIS is the ONE."

Nine years later we still live here. Thank you Tony! (He and I are on a first name basis. LOL)

Hey Father K! I haven't seen you in ages. I thought YOU were lost! J/k. When I was a little girl I used to pray "St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please come around. Something is lost that can not be found." For anyone in Fort Worth Texas, there is an exquisite statue of St Anthony at St Patricks Cathedral. I can't remember what the art form is called, but it was carved from cedar, painted, then covered with gold leaf. The gold is chipped away revealing the paint underneath. Its beautiful!

Yes, st Anthony helped me ALOT of times find lost objects. But I have a very interesting situation to tell.....I had gone to the convenience store to buy a pack of cigs...broke a 10.

Came back and went to my room...about an hour later was gonna leave again. Put my hand in my pocket to find my left over change from the convenience store...NO MONEY WAS TO BE FOUND.
Ok, I looked on top of my dresser
I looked on top of another dresser
I looked in ALL my jeans pockets
I went out into the pouring rain and looked in my car.
I looked on the walkway leading up to my house.
NOTHING.

Prayerd to St anthony to please help me find it .
Consoled myself that it was only about 7 bucks. No big deal. Could have been worse...could have been a twenty.

Go back into my house. Open my bedroom door...set my car keys on my dresser and there on top was MY MONEY!
I had looked there previously. There was nothing the first time.
But st anthony found it for me BIG TIME!
And to all the following posters who are gonna trash my answer.....
Faith....Try it ..you might like it!
S I R I
Thanks Father K for the great question!!!!

No, I haven't prayed to him before, but have heard of him. I'm going to try to make it to mass today. Thank you for reminding me of the Patron Saint of lost items. I forgot who it was and needed his help in finding my co-workers keys. I read a lot of interesting stories from your site. God bless and have a blessed day.

Amazing Grace,
How sweet thy sound,
That saved a wrench like meeeeeeeeee.
I once was lost, but now I'm found,
'Twas blind, but now I see.

St. Anthony of Padua, thanks for interceding and bringing back items that were lost and returning them to God and us.

Sorry to say I forgot this. I have asked St. Anthony for help in the past, and will say prayer of thanks, tonight.
(Your courage to ask this in this forum is amazing. So many ridicule people here in R&S - even their own faith.)

Peace.
