i was taught to excuse myself away from people, before clearing your nose.
even sniffling, throat-clearing, coughing was to be kept discreet, & best dealt with in private/washroom; if you wanted to be deemed polite, mannerly, in a old-world kind of way (esp if since social conventions were much more upheld & scrutinized.
i know in some oriental traditions, even while smiling/laughing, one was expected to cover their mouth- yawning without covering or turning the face away, was barbaric & very rude

There are over- the-counter drugs for action sickness (throwing up) like dramamine you could take and if that's an afternoon flight. also for action sickness, look out of the window and save you eye on the horizon even as conceivable. this provides your mind the information it needs to save your body in stability.

In public, the only thing to do is dab.
If you need the really honk it out or pick it, you should excuse yourself and go to the restroom.
That way, you can check your nose in the mirror and make sure you don't have any uninvited guests before returning.

I prefer to do this in Private that way I am not making anyone uncomfortable.
If you can't though then try to be as discrete as possible.
