Atheists and Agnostics too if you want to answer....

If it is true, then is it not the very height of arrogance to assume you, or any other human being, could even remotely comprehend the mind of a god? Divinely inspired or not, you are still a human being, not a god.

So why would you ever consider yourself to have the right to speak for a god at any given time?

Do you not think, that even should a god exist, that they would be so far beyond human understand that you do not have the right to ever think that you would know what they are thinking at any given time, and that any human being that ever lived in the past (when we were much less advanced) could ever know a gods mind?

You are not a god. The people who lived in the past were not gods. Even in the infinately minute possibility that said god ever divinely inspired anything, how can you ever think that your limited human mind could ever understand what the god was telling you, or your ancestors, to say in some book?

This question was brought on by some Christian who posted earlier "God is not happy" but I'm sorry I don't remember the question.

fireball, your ability to completely miss the point is staggering.

You too Hollie. How could you have so massively missed the point?

Do Christians specialize in that?

Sylvia, but the bible was not written by god, it was inspired by god. Which means it was written by men who hoped they understood what god told him he wanted.

Which means the bible is not god made, its man made.

Amazing, even when I talk within the limits of the religious mind, you still can't think logically.

Last I looked, man is fallible. For that matter, so is god, or he wouldn't have had the need to cause the great flood hmm?

2007-06-13 07:06:25 · update #5

Wow, the lack of logic here is just staggering.

They don't get the point you're making. It's like they just can't conceive that their beliefs might be anything less than right.

I'm not religious, but I'm answering. Assuming the Bible is true, God himself said that if Adam and Eve had been allowed to partake of the Tree of Life, they would become like God. So that tells me this, there are only two requirements to be like a God. (1) Knowledge of good and evil and (2) Being able to live forever. If mankind had the right to have a physical body that would last forever, we would at some point be like God. So Knowledge plus Eternity to test that Knowledge equals God. So my answer is no, if in fact God does exist, God is not so far beyond our human understanding.

I already debated this earlier and you will not get anywhere with it. Personally there is a better chance of God creating the earth and mankind then... "the big bang" you cannot prove any science theories to be true nor can you prove God does not exist. Its stupid to argue with people like you on this subject because your minds are just as closed to God being real as what you believe Christians minds are.

Plus God tells us to go out and teach/preach his word. theres a difference in quoting scripture and saying something "God said" thats not even mentioned in the bible. I agree that many Christians make rather arrogant statements on here that i never seen in the bible before, but instead of listening I do research for the truth.

To the person who said this was a waste of 5 points, I would rather waste 5 points to live the life you believe and you didn't answer the question so you better brush up on that bible, ace. Your question is true and valid and also proves that the bible isn't the word of God but of man. God exists because accidents don't happen. The entire universe is energy and something must create that energy

Ah, that is almost a direct quote from the Scriptures. The Bible says that God's ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so are God's ways and thoughts above ours. How infinite are the heavens? Bible studiers know this principle. The Bible flat out tells us that apart from God, we can know nothing of any importance. Why? Because He is the source of wisdom, and He gives it to whom it pleases Him. We have no delusions of grandeur. We know where we stand with God. We are like children. We rely completely on Him to teach and guide us. Anything else would be pure arrogance. The God-breathed Bible is our source of direction. Whatever you use is up to you. But if we choose to follow the Bible, nobody should be bothering us, or be offended. It's for us.

Yes, I agree, it is arrogant to think you can comprehend the mind of God. It is arrogant to assume you fully understand the will and divine plan of God, or how he works. I am human, but God has chosen to reveal his message and some of his plan to humans, through humans. He has asked me to live accordingly and has given humans some authority to speak on his behalf. I do believe God is far far far beyond human understanding, thats why I think its funny when people try to apply human wisdom and reason to understand or attempt to negate God. God wants fellowship with us, that is why he has revealed part of his mind, possibly the most important part (love), through us. I feel that I can understand what he is telling me because I feel and understand love. God is Love...

As a Christian, I believe that God dwells within me and that I am guided by the Holy Spirit. So when I speak or do certain things, it is under Gods guidance. Besides that, I try to line up what I say with the Bible which is God's word. Then its not my thoughts its his. I surrender my body to him to use, and he does, which includes my words and actions.

We can only speak what God has revealed, and yes, God has revealed only that which the limited human mind can comprehend. No human being can come close to fully understanding the mind of God or even the nature of God.

When you encounter Him in your life, you know it. When He speaks to you, you know it. It's an experiential thing, not a theory. You are speaking about something you have yet to experience but when you come to Jesus Christ He opens up your heart and mind to receive Him and you then are able to hear Him and what He has to say.
God speaking to us through His Son Jesus is a sign of His incredible love for us because we are so infinitely smaller than Him. We don't claim to be God. And our speaking for Him is not something we come up with. He in His free choice and wisdom chose to speak to us and through us. You are not able to see behind the words to the Person yet. But once your eyes are opened, you won't be mad at us and judge us as being arrogant or controlling. You'll probably have a jolly good laugh because then you'll see how BIG God is and how personally involved He is with His Creation because we give Him great pleasure! God Bless you!

The bible declares that we see through a glass darkly and that we cannot comprehend all that God has in store. That being said, it is not arrogant to believe that this same God had communicated with his people in a level they can to some degree comprehend in accordance with his own purposes for which he owes no one any explanation.

its true, our minds are limited here on this earth and we cannot begin to comprehend the things that god does. but he does inspire us, and he speaks to his prophets. he does it in a way that makes sense to us, thats how he inspired our ancestors to write. like a mother speaking to her small child, she will not use big words, but will break it down so that the child will learn and understand. i also believe that when we are willing to listen, god opens our minds so that we can understand more completely.
