Jesus did not die on the cross. He survived the crucifixion and lived another 30 years in India. Seriously.

When Jesus was on the cross, He experienced humanity's punishment in our place. Therefore, He was in far greater agony than just dehydration and bloodloss, and as a result of experiencing "Hell on Earth," He cried out to God.

Why would Jesus cry out to God if He doubted the existence of His Father?

And yes, God did care. He cared a lot. Which is why Jesus was dying in the first place--for humanity--and also why Jesus was raised from the dead 3 days later. :)

You might notice that Jesus didn't really want to die on the cross, as mentioned when He prayed at the Garden of Gesthemane. Obviously, no one wants to die. Okay, back to the Garden. In Jesus' prayer, He said "Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me." This means that He'd rather not die, but it was the Father's will, not His. And also, when Jesus died, it was written in the Apostle's Creed that Jesus descended into hell, and THEN arose. In hell, there is no God there. It's all evil down there. Of course, I actually have no idea, and I'm only telling you what I know, and it's probably not enough. I'm only human. Maybe you can actually try converting so you can go up into heaven someday and ask God that question.

I agree with frndofzion. How can you call her nasty when you insinuate that GOD either does not exist or is uncaring! By the way, Ernest is right too! God did have to look away or turn HIS back on Jesus while HE hung on the Cross because HE had the sins of the world(including yours and mine) on HIM and GOD does not look upon sin.
Don't be so quick to slam ppl when you are asking a question. Asking implies that you do not know the answer already. If you do already know the answer then do not ask.

He actually died of asphictiation, but no he was not confused.
When he felt forsaken by his father it was at that moment that he had taken on the sins of the world, and sin is what seperates us from God, so he was seperated from God at that moment. He was actually quoting the first line of Psalm 22-a deep expression of the anguish he felt when he took on the sins of the world. But both He and God knew that this painful time of seperation had to be done to pay the full penalty of sin. Hope that helps clear things up.

He was saying he felt abandoned, basicly- not that God didnt exist... Imagine if your Dad stood by and let you be beaten tortured, and hung on a cross (do you know how painfull and time consuming that is? They didnt even break his legs to speed it up) You suffocate very slowly because your lungs cant expand. I'd think the most saintly person would have a few choice words to say at that moment. It's an awful way to go.

Jesus came to bring us the Truth concerning God, however, even God the Father can not change a promise, it must be completed (fulfilled) to have an end.

Jesus had to complete all scripture to end the 5th Age.
"My God, My God why have you forsaken me" was scripture

"It is finished" was not scripture, Jesus had finished the work God the Father, gave him to do in the flesh.

It has been a lot of years since but I believe that the answer as to what he meant by asking "Why have you forsaken me?" goes as follows.

The gates of heaven were closed after Adam and Eve committed Original Sin. The passageway between earth and heaven was closed all humans who died here on earth. The souls were sent to a state of limbo which means they were neither alive nor dead.

Jesus came to earth to save mankind or in other words, reconnect man with God. He did this by becoming a man himself and then after explaining to his followers what they needed to do to get back on track he allowed himself to be captured and horribly killed.

Since the gates of heaven were closed to man as Jesus was about to die he would not be able to re-enter heaven. So when he cried out, "Father, why have you forsaken me?", He was speaking for all mankind. In other words he was speaking for man as a man.

This caused God to relent and reopen the gates of heaven.

I think that is what I was taught. Hope this helps.

He was quoting the Psalms....
This feeling of abandonment is quite common in Christians, not because God isnt there, but because we're looking for Him in the wrong ways. Jesus' last words "Into Your hands I commend my spirit) were the most trusting and loving ever spoken.

Because Jesus became mankinds sin, at that point, God could not have anything to do with him. Jesus took our sins to the cross with him and yet we continue to sin. Because Jesus was human, it is only natural that his emotions took the better of him. Yet he did not sin and that is the amazing thing.
