I and some friends would like to donate quilts to injured U.S. soldiers - but don't really have an inkling where to start. I don't know anyone in the military, and am curious, where do they go when the come home? Do they go to a hospital nearest their home town or how does that work?
Does anyone have any suggestions for how we may get these quilts to them?
Thank you so much! :)

N2JESUS - you're question is fine to ask, and here's an answer for you! :) I feel moved by what the soldiers are doing for us in Iraq (and other places too!) and want to do something to show my grattitude. I don't have a lot of money or time to give outside of the home, because I am a stay at home Mom, but I do have a lot of fabric and time to quilt - and it's something that I can do and enjoy doing. :) So that's why quilts, and yes, they will have a patriotic theme! :)

There's an organization called Quilts of Valor that is exactly what you're looking for. You can make a quilt top and send it to a longarmer within the organization to quilt it, or you can volunteer to be a longarmer. You could even make the whole quilt. There's a ton of information on their website (below). I know several people who participate, and it's a legitimate organization.
As for those who wonder what good a quilt will do - it's about acknowledgment. The men and women in the military are doing a job - a dangerous, horrible job - that our country has demanded of them. Whether we agree or disagree with that decision, the soldiers are there at the command of their country. A quilt simply says, "Someone remembers you. Someone cares that you exist."

I'm all for you wanting to help the soldiers and don't mean this to sound mean but why quilts? What use would they have for a quilt? Would it have some kind of military theme on it? Just wondering. Good luck.
THANKS for the update Quilt Mommy! God Bless You!

Gita Sehgal have got to be counseled for being real to the usual human rights reason. Amnesty International has emerge as an Islamic propaganda instrument. There are tons of such "Human rights activists" parading in India too like Teesta Setalvad. She's in no way fought for the rights of the ones burnt alive within the educate at Godhra or the sufferers of 26/eleven assaults however has made a profession out of Gujarat riots. I would not be amazed if those so referred to as Human rights activists are funded through Islamic petro greenbacks. They don't have anything to do with Human rights and the reality. Infact she used to be stuck through SIT making a couple of exaggerated fake claims of muslims being tortured in the course of riots.

Besides Walter Reed Hospital, I believe every state has
a Veterns Hospital. You might want to contact them, they
should be able to help. Or even try Army Reservists in your
area.

Typically when they come home injured, they first go to Walter Reed Army Medical Center near D.C., or Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio. You can try contacting them to see how to go about doing this...

I suggest you send your quilts to the people the U.S. soldiers are trespassing upon, imprisioning and destroying instead.
