Right click the AVG icon in the system tray and choose "Launch AVG Control Center. In the Control Center Window, click "Test Center". In the Test Center window, click "Scheduler". Under "Scheduled Tasks, click once on "Test plan in basic mode" to select/highlight is. Now at the bottom of this window, click "Edit Schedule". In the "Schedule Daily Test", remove the check from "Periodically start scheduled antivirus test".

AVG should no longer "Auto Launch". You will need to do a manual launch from the system tray.

Go to the Control Center and change the Scheduled Tasks. I think that will do it, disable the test mode. I have mine just scheduled to update everyday but not scan. I start the scan manually.
