They simply cannot be so out of touch with Democratic American citizens to believe their constitutents want illegals to be rewarded for illegal behavior with "a pathway to citizenship." And, surely they understand that history has shown that making illegals citizens will encourage more illegal immigration. Further, they ignore the injustice of laws being enforced on Americans, such as being charged with a felony for use of false identification, tax enforcement, etc, but the same laws are not enforced when an illegal is involved. If the Democratic party is in fact concerned with poor Americans, they could in no manner make poverty problems worse by supporting illegal amnesty in any form. They would support enforcement of our current immigration laws and securing of our border. I have voted Democrat all my life, but will not vote for anybody for "a pathway to citizenship" (amnesty) for illegals. Every Democrat I know agrees. Why are they committing political suicide?

All you need to register to vote in Chicago is to show that you are a resident - a phone bill will do with your name and address in conjunctoin with a driver's license (easily forged)- I have never been asked for anything more solid than this. Seems to me that illegals could vote fairly easily if they wanted to; given the assistance of politicians and their election forces - not to mention the support of the Catholic Church.

Additionally, MANY Democrats see the illegals as "victims" of "big business" and in traditional liberal fashion open their bleeding hearts to them. They seem to support the amnesty bill because they equate it with being humane toward a group of peole they feel are being unjustly persecuted. For some reason refusing to see them as criminals.
I am a longtime Democratic voter who wil NOT be voting for any politician who so much as shows a mild inclination to this way of thinking.
I am also sick of this rationale that there is no way to deport millions of people - and yet they seem to think they'll be able to track fining and registering all of them. They can't even get passports made in a timely manner. WE ARE BEING DUPED. If the reason for allowing our laws to be broken is that it is too difficult to prosecute large numbers of offenders. iven this precedent -maybe we ought to all go into drug trafficking and make a few bucks - or all refuse to pay income taxes.

Good Question. As for the two who said that we don't have an "official" language; that may be true, however, in order to become a legal citizen of this country, you MUST take the citizenship test, and know the basics of the English language. So, even though it is not our "Official" language, you still must know it to become a citizen. So, why must we cater to every language in the world? Spanish is NOT our second language, and we should not have it forced upon us.

I'm a rabid Republican who is ENRAGED with Bush over this amnesty bill! Very few Republicans support this travesty, and those that do are very unlikely to continue their political careers. Bush has left the party with this one... (And for those that point out it's his bill, he had a LOT of help writing it, especially from Kennedy and La Raza.)
But I whole-heartedly agree with your points about this not making sense--from the fairness issues to caing from the poor... What it tells me is that there are some unseen financiers pulling the strings of those in Washington, and a huge portion of our government is NOT listening to its people!

"Do the Democratic presidential candidates actually think they can get elected with illegal immigrant votes? "

Yes.

California Democrats have been doing this for 20+ years. Nobody slapped their hands (except Republicans) and the media kept silent.

No.

Aliens don't vote.

The only Democrats I know who think like you do are really Republicans in sheep's clothing. The give-away is either the pointy tail sticking out or the mindless bigotry spouting out.

It's not political suicide. It's a recognition that the USA is not and has not for some time been the shiznit it used to be.

They can't be so out of touch with our Constitution. It says ONLY citizens can vote.
When your political representation starts encouraging people to violate our highest set of laws, it's time to get new representation.

You've demonstrated why it's ridiculous when the right tries to accuse the left of employing such a tactic.
