Not sure why people keep talking about automotive repair, automotive repair and automotive engineering are fundamentally different jobs.

A mechanic's role is to keep cars running (maintenance), and to restore them back to their original condition as problems arise (repair).

An engineer's job is to design and invent things with practical uses, using scientific principles and research (i.e. "applied science"). They design the car in the first place and re-design it as flaws are found, or to otherwise make improvements on the existing design.

Here's a good Q&A session I found between high school students and some automotive engineers:

Here's a snippet from that Q&A that addresses your questions:

"High School Student Question: Where did you go to college, how long did it take to earn your degree, and what kinds of courses did you have to take?

Answer: There are many excellent colleges and universities in the United States and around the world that offer degrees in engineering. Most of the students who enter the Automotive Engineering masters program have an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. "

well if youre goin to a community college you can take the auto mechanics course and get a degree in 2 years.
If you want the fancier one take mechanical engineering major, there's an option for auto engineering there. you can check the web or ask your local college for more info.
goodluck
Edit: sorry I didn't read the aerodynamics part, for such designs you'll have to take mechanical engineering for sure, auto engineering is a part of it. It's a very tough major though, so be prepared
goodluck

Most community colleges have an automobile mechanics curriculum that covers general maintenance, body repair, engine rebuilds, etc. If you have a community college near your home then chances are they will have the curriculum as well.
