Something like this to the person you interviewed with:
Thank you for taking the time to consider me for the position.I am always trying to improve my skill level;can you convey to me why I was not hired for this position.Your help will enable me to address any deficiencies I may have with my job skills or interview techniques.Of course I will always be available for consideration for other positions with your company.

You likely did nothing "wrong"- it's more a question of what another applicant offered that was different, and somehow more fitting with the company's corporate structure. They may respond and say they went with someone with more experience, or different education, but it's unlikely something you can correct, so I'm not sure asking for this info will give you something you can work with, to change.

Just write what you just said: I'm disappointed that I didn't get this job, and I was wondering, if I just wasn't right for the position or, if in some way, I could have presented myself better. What do you look for in an interviewee, and how could I have done better?

Asking never can heard.
Write a polite email and ask them what why you've been rejected.
A good company is willing to give you some tips.
(Say in the email that you want to know so that you can work on it, for your next interview).

But don't wait for answer, go in search for a next interview.
(Never bet on one horse!)

Hopefuly better luck next time.
