Hi folks,
My family and myself are thinking of emigrating to Australia via skilled visas. Have started the ball rolling by paying for the skills assessment.
yesterday i felt keen to emigrate and full of hope.
Today i feel low, sad and unsure if it is the right thing to do. the whole process of emigrating seems overwhelming! having to seel your home, transfer pensions over and virtually sell most things you own and of course leaving family and friends behind.
Just want to know if anyone else felt like this when emigrating???
Or is this a sign that I should not be doing this???

Before emigrating anywhere I would suggest you visit the place you are thinking about living not just for a 2 week vacation but for as long as possible. It is normal to feel the way you do everyone has doubts and second thoughts. You wouldn't be normal if you didn't feel like that.

So give a long vacation at your chosen destination a try, get the feel of the place, who knows you might just enjoy it but at on the other hand you might hate it thus saving yourself a lot of hassle and grief.

Whatever you decide to do I am sure will be the right thing for you.

Hey - I think it is more than normal to feel this. It's a MASSIVE decision to make the move and it's only natural to have doubts and feel overwhelmed................ However, having been to Brisbane twice I know that the quality of life out here far surpases that over here. They say that Brisbane has 300 days of sunshine a year, can you say that about the UK! Plus the beaches are amazing and can you imagine getting home from work and then going out to the beach after. Your lifestyle will be so much healthier and your kids will be out all the time, not stuck inside playing computer games. It will be all worth it in the end. But giving up your material posessions and your home is really wrenching and the thought of leaving your friends behind is horrible. But there are so many good things to look forward to. My brother left the UK at 18 and went to live in south africa and he's never looked back since. He's lived loads of places and his daughter has had the most amazing childhood. If I had the skills to do it I wouldn't hesitate!

Its nothing, it is a big task and you dont know what you will be getting out of emmigrating to Australia and whether it will be worth it or not. Your just questioning it because your time here is coming to an end and you may feel as if you havent completed all of the things you wanted to before leaving. You also are realising that you will rarely see your friends here again and everything you have accomplished here will be left here.

Trust me once you have moved and become stable then you will realise it was worth all the trouble. Australia is a truly amazing place and it is quick and easy to make friends there for life.

Its perfectly normal and just a sub-conscious process that you go through untill you settle in Australia.

Normal it is a big decision. I recall something similar before i went for a new job, got it and then had to decide if I should take it. Australia is a marvellous country and truly independant. It's politicians have not sold it out. not yet anyway

Don`t know how old you are but if you don`t give it a try you`ll never know. This country will always be here , only worse
Good Luck
P.S. Think of a dark, damp evening in January, when it`s dark going to work and dark when you come home
