Praise the Lord that Lina Joy has found Christ. It was a wondrous day when that happened and her eternal salvation is ensured. But the earthly entity that governs Malaysia has determined that from a legal standpoint, she is and will always be Islamic unless she is officially declared an apostate (which isn't a good thing in an Islamic society).

I notice that a number of organizations and countries have protested the Lina Joy ruling and I wonder why any other country should have a say in how Malaysia makes these determinations. I know as a right thinking American, I'd feel pretty upset if some other country tried to tell us how we had to do something.

If it is right that other countries can tell Malaysia how to identify its people as far as religion is concerned, then would we have the right to enforce Lina Joy's rights via military intervention and economic sanctions?

Honestly, It doesn't matter what the government of Malaysia thinks. The minute Lina Joy found Christ and accepted him in her heart, she became a Christian. Who knows, maybe she can work from within and change the extremists point of view.

This always happens when governments try to dictate what religion you can follow. That is why the First amendment is so important. The government (in America) can not say, "You have to be a Baptist, or a Muslim, or a Catholic, to be a citizen." You just have to immigrate legally.

As long as the government of Malaysia isn't stoning her, let it rest. She and God know that she's a christian, and that's all that matters.

Military intervention is bad in nearly every case.

Economic sanctions are better. Malaysia is often brought up as an example of a moderate Muslim country, but that status has to be doubted as long as there are social pressures and implicit threats ("[apostatism] isn't a good thing in an Islamic society") keeping people in Islam or any other religion.

Who cares. God is in control over such things. If she truly is a christian is doesn't matter if someone says "No she is a follower of Ronald McDonald".

Countries are trying to push freedom of religion while some of the others are doing it for female rights. Its more a UN thing. Military intervention would never happen. Ecnomic could but its very unlikely. China would get sanctions way before malaysia ever would.

You miss the point! It's not for any state to decide not even malaysia. It's a person's personal choice!

Again, Christianity and its rival play a point game with a person's life. Neither cares about the human being they use. They only want their religion's triumph.
