I have a Chihuahua/Miniature Pincher with my fiancee. Last night he had eaten something before I could tell him to drop it when we were talking and he swallowed it. The rest of the night went as usual, except he kept getting in and out of bed, waking me up. Then, this morning I awake to find SEVERAL hardened, post-liquidy poop stains in our living room. I am not sure how to get the stains off the carpeting without ripping the carpet itself up. What can I do to get it up and out of my carpeting, preferably without having to use some industrial cleaners?

The easiest thing to use to clean pet mess out of carpet is vinegar and water.

Mix 1 part of each and dump it on the stains, it will soften them - and then you can scrub them out.

The vinegar is acidic so it will break all of the stuff down.

Pick up what you can without ruining the carpet. You may have to soften it with warm water so that you don't cause any damage. Once you get up the larger pieces, spray the stained area with Nature's Miracle (after testing in an inconspicuos area) and let it soak in. Then blot and let dry. Repeat until the stain is gone.

If the stain doesn't go away, you may have to try a steam cleaner but I've found the Nature's Miracle to work very well on our carpet. Plus, it has the additional benefit of being an enzyme cleaner that will keep the dog from going again in the same spot.

I know this advice is too late, but in the future you may want to contain the dog to an easy to clean area such as the kitchen or bathroom. Particularly if the dog is young or not feeling well.

If they were liquidy and were there for a while, it may be hard to clean them up. I'd recommend starting with one of those "Oxy" cleaners--the kind that have two liquids in two separate containers, and when you press the button they come out and mix together.

We use one that works pretty well, but even it won't get out all stains. I think it may be made by Bissell but I'm not sure. It has a blue label and the handle and trigger on the top of the cans is blue. The label says it's specifically for pet stains.

If that doesn't work (it might not because the stains have set) you might have to rent a carpet cleaner from the supermarket.

Get a spatular the one you would use for turning over fish scrape the rest of the poo up with that, get some washing liquid you would use to wash clothes. Make this as a solution with warm water.
Squeeze excess out of a sponge & keep wiping over the carpet to get the stain out. Try not scrub the carpet or you will just smush it further in.
When you have cleaned it get some bicarbonate of soda used for baking, sprinkle over the freshly washed carpet leave to dry, this will remove any unwanted smells left over & will remove the scent were the dog has poo'd.
I use this method & it will work without damaging the carpet.

That's so gross.

First you should disinfect it with Lysol or something. Then use Nature's Miracles, sold in most pet supply stores. Hopefully it will work magic for you. I use it to remove pee smell.
