I've only read the KJV, alas, and what I like "best" about it is the lively dance with "Elizabethan" English. The rub there is that more than one writer put his pen to work on it. I read somewhere recently that even Will Shakespeare made a buck or two during the relatively short time of the "interpretation," or whatever. A lot of it is really pretty writing, which no doubt is why it's held in such high-esteem by Protestants in the USA. Too bad for them that the English language in play in nancy-boy James's version (that's uncalled for; I apologize) was no more than a half-century in use--almost 1400 years after events in the NT were claimed to have taken place. Other aspects of both the Old and the New Testament are a mismash of myth, legend, oral history, ignorance, guessing, outright lies, and absurdities. Hey, my fundie pals, no matter how you slice it, snakes do not talk. Etc., etc., etc.

I find it quite amusing how many atheists revert to using the Bible to support their claims. They use the very book they don't believe in, then twist it and distort it to help prove their unfounded theories. Isn't it kind of an oxymoron?
It's just like Satan to twist and distort the true meaning of things.

It's a shame that most people don't realize that the Bible was indeed "messed" with quite a bit, absolutely changing it's entire original intended meaning. So many inconsistencies, contradictions and outright lies penned in by men who wanted to make sure that they were the dominant species, and especially over women.
Unfortunately the original text will most likely never be known. For all we know we could have evolved from an alien race. Any "fundies" won't ever accept this, but then again, I'm just stating what my studies have revealed.

i imagine it is unfair to assert that each Atheist will own this 'bible'. i'm an Atheist yet I should not be paying for that e book. Plus, Atheists do not imagine interpreting the Bible is ignorent, I in basic terms imagine that residing your existence in accordance to a e book written thousends of years in the past is somewhat stupid. many of the recommendations and evaluations written interior the Bible are previous now, which include Homosexuality is undesirable rule.

For pure absurdity, if that is what a person likes, Leviticus is hard to beat. For me, I would say that one of my favorite parts is Noah's "ark", which, of course was hilarious enough to begin with. But now it has reached new heights of inanity, because the "Creation Museum" now explains to us that the "ark" DID contain dinosaurs too, including T-Rex which the "Creation Museum" demonstrates was a plant eater! (with teeth like that, it must have eaten some real dangerous plants). This fairy tale belongs in the Bullshit Hall of Fame.

The Bible is an interesting book that, when studied properly, can tell us about the history of belief and mythology.
The fact that it's a mishmash of myths and legends and oral traditions are points in its favor, as long as people don't actually believe the religious parts of it.
Exception: Leviticus. There is little of redeeming value in that one.

In the old and new testament, there are references to the evil within thoughts. I think this is incredibly valuable and accurate. The fact that harm can come from a mere thought, and not just through actions, is profound.

The pages make great toilet paper, or fire starters, and the cover is good for cleaning up dog sh!t..
Other than that it gives people with no ability to think for themselves something to talk about, but then again, so do the Harry Potter books....

What I like most about the bible is that's it's very easy to debunk. Because it's so incredibly stupid and naive. Other thing that makes it ridiculous is that it's very badly written, with many inconsistencies.
