1Cor 2:13-14
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

That only through God's spirit can His truth and wisdom be revealed to mankind. And God's truth is only given to those of us who have the Holy Spirit's indwelling presence. To everyone else it is foolishness strictly because they have not the spiritual eyes to see.

First of all you should read 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 because this is the whole of the message that Paul is writing; The Gospel of Heavenly Wisdom. Paul is conveying the message that those who think they have true wisdom of the Word of God don't have it, and don't understand it and will twist it and make it their own, We are also to seek to be perfect, as God is perfect.
Matthew 5:48
Colossians 1:28 & Colossians 4:12
Ephesians 5:1
So often I see people pick scripture and not know what they are trying to say or do seek comments on bits and pieces and not on the whole word of God. This is very dangerous! Read an entire passage quote the entire passage, then ask or answer based on the whole and not the part.
And it is important that before reading the Bible, that you go before the Lord and ask in prayer for his understanding and his wisdom and not yours, we can truly end all the confussion with prayer and supplication to the Lord and wait upon him.
And we all need to get back to reading the King James Bible and refrain from the other so-called versions, that mislead and confuse.

When a christian is speaking by the Holy Spirit, he is speaking spiritual truth, and the only ones who understand what he is saying are other christians. Whenever a non-Christian hears this, he thinks it is foolish and because he can't understand it. The reason we can understand it is because we have the gift of understanding God's word.
This is a method to determine whether someone is a Christian. If they claim to be a Christian but do not understand God's word and think of it as foolishness, they are not who they say they are.
Quote from link:
"George Bernard Shaw admitted that he could not make any sense out of the New Testament unless he had a very select means of interpretation. He did not understand the things of the Spirit of God. Why not? He did not have the Spirit of God. He was brilliant but blind."

It means that God's Word is spiritual wisdom given to us through the Holy Spirit - not of human, worldy wisdom. Only those who are truly saved by the grace of God can understand His Holy Scriptures because God's Holy Spirit is only present within the hearts of those who know and love and obey Him. Those who are not saved cannot understand the Word of God because God's Holy Spirit is not with them. Therefore, they are spiritually blind and without understanding. The Word of God is foolishness to the unbelieving.

Before I received the Holy Spirit, I couldn't understand the Bible.
Now that Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit I understand the Word of God.
You can't read the Bible with the natural mind, you have to have the Spirit of God.
God is Holy, the Bible is Holy, when we become children of God we become Holy.

The Holy Spirit teaches born again Christians all things. Without the Spirit of God the Bible does not make sense. When read people will say, "I just can't understand it."

To paraphrase Solomon....you can tell a fool by the way he walks down the street.
Walking with the Spirit of God is walking with wisdom. The fool has said in his heart "there is no God".

I think this is referring to people who have hardened hearts toward God.
I know that when I accepted Jesus as my saviour (fairly recently) my whole demeanor concerning God changed. He felt more of a friend and loved one. I really feel that I received a new understanding of the Scripture and began to see things that I hadn't seen before, as a truth and way of life instead of old dogmatic passages.
Hope this makes sense.
God Bless You All

Sounds to me like it's saying basically that only those who believe in God will be able to understand him and everyone else will view it all as foolishness. In a way it's true as many atheists view Christians as foolish and I myself who am not Christian also do not understand the Christian version of God.

Why do you think so many on answers see Christians as fools? This is why. If any of them put away that hatred and lean on Christ for support then the word will open to them and they understand and be looked at as being foolish by those who won't give themselves to God... Jim
