Someone said that "Christian Science" is neither Christian nor science. Sort of like Grape Nuts.

First, the term "Christian Scientist" is not an oxymoron when discussing mainstream moderate Christians or Liberal Christians. It's only the fundamentalists who introduce the anti-science stance.
That said, Christian scientists as a religion are neither Christian nor Scientific, which makes their organization's name a puzzle.
That said, the Christian Science Monitor is an excellent publication. It seems the Christian Scientists have providing honest information and education as part of their mandate, so the Monitor operates independently of any influence from the Church.
Mark Twain wrote a book about Christian Science back in the day. Grab it from the library, its a great read.

I love how people judge something they have no knowledge of.
We all already know what christian means and science quite simply is the study of something to help produce solutions to a particular area of that study. Therefore christian science would be the study of christianity to produce some solution, christianly, or in other words to extract the truth from biblical teachings.
And quite frankly I've known a lot of christian scientists in my time and they are the most un-pushy christians I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, unlke many other belief systems I have had the unfortunate experience of running into like baptists, jehovah witnesses and need I say more?
So, no, they are not contradictory terms.
Schneb,... you're a good example of judging something you know nothing about. Where does it say that science only deals with the physical anyway? No where, that's where!

Christian Science is a sect of the Church of Christ.
To quote from the website: "The Church of Christ, Scientist, is designed to make the healing and educational system known as Christian Science available and accessible to everyone. Christian Science enables us to understand our relationship to a loving God and our relationship to each other. This understanding improves our lives, our communities and the world. The complete explanation of Christian Science is contained in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy."
They can use MDs if they wish (per their website). For more information read their information.

No, they are not contradictory, in the sense of being an oxymoron. Christian Science is specific to healing science, and not generally requiring a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible. Christian scientists are very knowledgeable about the healing power of the mind, and use it along with herbal and non-prescription remedies, and good nutrition, to substitute for modern medicine. Pretty effective, but I still want an MD as back-up in case it gets too much.

You have to admire their PR men though. If I wanted to sell something these would be the guys to call. Christian Science is what I call re branding. Nobody was interested when is was just plain old Mumbo Jumbo but hey "Christian Science" is sexy. How about "Intelligent Design"? It must of come from the same Ad agency. They are inspired. Take something really really dumb and call "Intelligent Design" and suddenly it`s something that every drooling hick wants on their bumper sticker. I`m tellin` yer these guys could make poo chewing trendy.

No, it is not.
A lot of scientists are Christian. They are NOT in the minority. What a lot of people out there are trying to do is drive a wedge between your love of God and your love of a rational world. The subtext being, "If you think God's Real, you are crazy." The truth of the matter for me is that the more I look into how marvelously the world is put together the more i am convinced that God is real.
There is also a denomination called "Christian Scientists." Who don't believe in using medicine. That may be what you are hearing.
Vaya con Dios!

Religion doesn't necessarily have to make sense. It's like the term, "Judao-Christianity" The Christian religion is based on Jesus and the Jewish religion denies Jesus completely so how can there be Judao-Christianity? I'd consider Christian science to fall into the same category.

Its a double misnomer as they are neither Christian nor scientists. Some people give names to their organization a euphemism designed to appeal to its believers. Other examples include: Scientology, Unity, or even Church of Christ.

Christian Science is a cult, so take that for what its worth.
Science is limited to the physical. Your soul is eternal. The Bible deals with what is eternal where science cannot venture. The physical realm will pass away, and science will pass away with it. What you want to do is latch onto that which will last forever, and that is the Word of God. Science deals with understanding and comprehending creation. Religion deals with the understanding and comprehension of the Creator. So which would you rather cling to, that which is temporary, or that which is eternal? Science is just a shooting star.
Matthew 24:35
Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."
