This is not intended to be a "funny" question. I'm actually being serious.

I have 2 Jack Russells. I've had "Jack", the female for about 6 years, and "Buddy", the male, for 2 1/2 (I've had both since they were puppies). Jack does not follow me to the bathroom, but Buddy does. For the first 2 years of Buddy's life, he'd go to the door and swing it wide open, look at me, and then leave (I usually leave it cracked since it's MY house, unless there are visitors). But for the past few months, this dog insists on sitting in or out of the bathroom, watching me. If I close the door, he sticks his nose under the door until I'm done. Sometimes, he takes his front legs and acts like he's trying to dig a hole under the door.

What's up with this??? Does he figure that since I take him out to do his business, he's got to come with me???

He may want your company, but he also wants to know what you have been eating.

Dogs learn this from what comes out of you. A Jack Russell Terrier can't reach high enough to learn that, so he is doing the next best thing.

This is too funny. I have a dog 8 y.o she does the very same thing only its more that just the bathroom. It's every room. They call this separation anxiety. These dogs of many breeds will pick 1 person as their life long friend for life kinda thing. They are just a very dependent personality. A one of a kind. So you have to know that they love you so much. Too much maybe? Personally I know that I have a life long devoted, very loyal friend in my dog. She aims to please and is very smart. These are the types of personalities that you can train to do remarkable things like add, subtract and teach to know left from right. Mine does, try it.
Good Luck To Ya.

My golden retriever does the same thing. My bathroom door will not shut completely so he always barges right in. Most of the time he wants me to pet him or give him a drink out of the sink. I've heard that male dogs really require more attention than females and they always want to be with their "human".

Dogs are very curious animals. My dog does the same. He will come in and sit down. I think he mostly just wants to be near me, but it is a little strange. He also LOVES taking baths so maybe he's hoping that he's getting a bath. Sometimes he will get in the tub (which is funny because he's 115 lbs) I'm hoping that one day he will put two and two together and use the toilet himself !!! Dogs are awesome!! I would be flattered....He just loves you.

My dog does the exact same thing. I'm pretty sure it's because they think you're leaving. The dog just wants to be with you and doesn't want you to leave. If it opens the door then leaves, it's probably because it wants to make sure you're still there.

It not anything to be concerned about. He just wants to be next to you. My dogs have to be in the same room with me most of the time. He's just a loving pet.

There is no telling. My two Boxers and my Dobie, not to mention, my two cats all follow me to the bathroom. I can only venture a guess. They love me and want to be with me everywhere I go ;)

Plain and simple....he wants to be where you are and if he can't see you it gets his dander up. I have a golden who does exactly the same thing. She sits and waits for me or she circles the ouside of the bathroom looking for me.

My dog does that too. I think its just because he wants to be with you. You are Buddy's owner so he wants to pretect you and be near you at all times =)
