There is a midget in a room with only one door no windows...the door is locked with no key, the only thing about the room is there is a small gap under the door (lets say 1 cm).
the midget hears a knock on the door and shortly after he kills himself.....Why?

Option 1: The midget was put in a tiny room. He was sitting down, and when he heard the knock it startled him, and he jumped up and broke his neck.
Option 2: The midget is blind, and the door is a trap door. Hearing the knock, he ran towards it and tripped, killing himself.
Option 3: He was looking under the door crack when he heard the knock and stood up, killing himself by crashing into the door knob.

How does the midget kill himself / what is in the room?
The midget has been captured by the evil Mr. Sneertooth who deals in midgets. He sells them to circuses, diamond mines, movie producers, and people who like having midgets around for fun. The gap under the door is for food/air. The midget has been planning his escape, but the knock on the door means someone wants to buy him. Rather than face years of torture, slave labor, or humiliation he takes his own life.
Update:
I think Becky is close but backwards. He is in a bare room so he has nothing to measure against. The ruler he is given is modified and when he measures himself it looks like he is growing. For whatever reason (he makes his living as the worlds shortest man?) he doesn't want to be growing and kills himself.

The person at the door slides a ruler under it...thus the gap between the door and floor. And when he figures out he's a midget by measuring himself with the ruler...he kills himself due to unhappiness.

he did try to escape under the door (he was small cos he was a midget ) but he only got his head under saw that the grim reaper was witing for him and try to go back under the door but his head popped off with all the pressure !!!

or
