I think it's that people are lazy. They know they need to be more limber, but actually stretching requires making an effort. They are asking for the "Magic Pill" that will make it unnecessary to actually perform stretching exercises.

These are probably the same people who want to learn Martial Arts online or from a book for free.

Cheap and Lazy!

Many schools and instructors don't go into the depth and detail when teaching classes these days either because of time constraints or they don't have the knowledge in some areas. Forty years ago classes were usually adults only, 90-120 minutes long and taught by first or second generation type instructors. You tested for your black belt after 5 years of training and you did not even think about a second degree until your eighth year of training. Classes were not designed to be fun or recreation type classes/programs but rather a means to pass on an art under higher standards that had stricter requirements.

Classes today are shorter, promotion requirements are watered down-too much in some cases-and you have instructors as a by product of this now teaching or opening studios. While this has, in some ways, benefited the youth of America and martial arts you see here the thirst for real hard core, nuts and bolts type aspects that some of the younger or lower ranking students are not able to get in their own schools now.

I know for me I like the wide range of opinion. I know my instructor is awesome and I trust his experience completely, but he's one person. I know his training comes from a long line of experience, but still he'll have his opinion and here you get input from everywhere - so wide reaching from so many people that I think it gives you some new ideas to try. That's just why I started.

because although the instructor has experience with stretching, training, etc., it is still helpful to get other sources of information. You may even find better methods from outside sources.
