I am not trying to take sides or be disrespectful, but;

1. No WMD's found

2. Saddam is gone

So whatever "threats" Bush said we have is eliminated and has been.

The only big problem left are the insurgents. The insurgents are only there because we are. There are bombings daily in the city, killing thousands and knocking out power and water throughout the country.

We basically control Iraq, so we have acess to the oil, so that isn't an issue any more.

Did anyone notice how the insurgents just came here soon when we got to Iraq?
9/11 and Iraq are no way related.

Yeah right, we'll just leave Iraq and instantly it will become a land of peace and prosperity. And then we all lived happily ever after.

The fact is insurgents are killing people because they are terrorists. If we leave they will continue to kill people in Iraq. Not only that, they will attempt to strike America at home. Better to fight the terrorists in Baghdad than in New York City.

The reason we are still there is that Bush is oil and Cheney is, well a war-profiteer - there is no other way to put it.

What is happening over there isn't because Americans are there, it is because Saddam isn't. Because he ruled with an iron fist, he kept these people under control. Now that he is gone, they are free to practice their own individual brands of insanity.

We don't control Iraq, and oil keeps coming up "missing." You do the math.

No, I am not a "lib" or a "con." I am an American who has seen our economy, status in the world, and pride go to heck in a handbasket since Bush decided on this "great undertaking."

We are still in Iraq because the job is not done. As for WMDs, there is a news story that they found evidence of those WMDs in Syria. I know that liberals will refuse to believe that even with total proof. If we leave Iraq, Al Quaida will then be free to plan that much more over here. I know, you don't believe that, either. We'll find out. The democrats surrendered to North Vietnam in the 1970s, and they are about to surrender to Al Quaida next year.

before each and every thing Congress has stated that they did locate 500 shells that contained chemical guns that were assume to were destroyed. basically because they are considered previous (they have a existence span of below a decade), doesn't propose they can't be recharged (an similar way a hearth extiguisher is recharged) and the reason they were no longer recharged is Saddam is now no longer in ability. He might want to have recharged them and gave them to our enemies. second Muslims from global, extraordinarily Africa and Chechnians are coming to Iraq and Afganistan to break issues. in the journey that they don't look to be struggling with in Iraq, they could be struggling with elsewhere like Europe. this can make Iraq a risky section for awhile as adult adult males with funds and guns try for ability performs to own Iraq. The insurgesnts in Iraq went from having the flexibility to raid police HQs in Iraq and Afganistan to being unable to finish that. the adult adult males in both parts are going after softer aims in both parts considering that they now no longer have the acute firepower to tug off major raids anymore. i imagine those sorts of fellows will continually be round as they are in all elements of the international.

Here's the deal ... I have to ask this question; what if we are there for oil? Does anyone here drive a car, use a lawn mower, fly to go on vacation? Unfortunately oil is what drives our economy and economies around the world. Stability or some sort of stability in the middle east (the oil center of the world) is vital to the survival of our way of life. I believe our government realized this and saw Iraq as the easiest way into the region based on credible intel about Saddam Hussein and his violent past. Can anyone imagine what would happen to the world if Islamic extremists took control of the oil supply and cranked the price of oil up to $200/barrell or shut the flow of oil off completely? Can you imagine how your life would change? I can and I do not want to see that day.

By the way, we did find the wmd's for those who were wondering, the media just chose not to cover it.

That being said, the Islamic extremists in the middle east and around the world would love nothing more than for us to leave the region with a defeatist attitude. They have hated us and our way of life for many many years, not just because we are in Iraq, but because we do not embrace their radical ideologies. Many of the previous answers are absolutely correct, we cannot leave or we will be seen as weak and unwilling to do whatever it takes to win. The extremists are willing to die for the belief in their way of life, why are we as Americans unwilling to do the same?
We need to focus on our common beliefs and values instead of our differences or everything we hold dear to us will be gone.

P.S. Can someone tell me where you are getting the information about "missing" oil? Just curious.

The insurgents came here just after Iraq? How do you figure? There were dozens of terrorist attacks on the US, including embassy bombings, 9/11, and the first attack on the WTC.

Do a little research next time little boy.

We're still there because the Iraqi people and government are still not back on their feet and need time to organize and get their act together because if we leave before that, there will be a full civil war and fragmentation of the country.

I would disagree that the insurgents are there only because of us. The Shiite death squads are trying to ethnicaly cleanse the Sunnis whether we're there or not.

We're still in Iraq because Bush and his advisers see "hope for rebuilding Iraq". But when it comes down to it, it's not our responsibility to rebuild Iraq for Iraq.

But when it comes down to it all; we should have never gone. Iraq didn't do anything to us. They didn't attack us. They didn't threaten us in a way that had us jumping out of our seats. We went in there because Bush thinks he has the rights to control everyone and everything.

We're still over there because of lies. This whole war is based on lies. And sadly; our own President's Administration is based on lies. And we let this happen.

Don't buy into the terrorist rhetoric. The bottom line is that we are there for oil. We went in for oil and we will never leave
until the oil is gone. They are building bases all over Iraq.
Funny how the embassy is on schedule yet stuff like water and electricity for the people is in the dumps.

Don't buy the terrorist crap. Its all about controlling the oil.
Notice how the most important thing is for the iraqies to pass the oil law which basically gives control of the oil to American oil companies.

Its about oil plain and simple. Even the next democrat president will not pull us out because they will work for the same people.

Wonder why they are talking about the Korea model. We are never leaving.

We only control Iraq because our army is there.
The Iraqi army is inadequate and the Iraqi police are corrupt.
We have dug ourselves into a hole that we can't get out of.
Some generals say that we will have to maintain permanent bases in Iraq as we do in Korea.
