My puppy was recently sick with a intestinal infection and she's gotten better now. I brought her home yesterday but she has really, really bad breath. Does this have to do with her earlier infection or is it just because of the food she eats? I don't know what she ate earlier but she eats dry food at our house. She's still eating medicine but the vet told me it was just to make sure the infection doesn't start again. She's only supposed to eat the medicine for the next 5 days, after that she can stop. She's too young to be teething (is she?), her intestine infection is better but her breath still really stinks. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

Did you ask the vet? In my opinion all puppies have rank breath. However, an intestinal infection could be the problem and her breath will probably get better as she get well. Have patience and if it really concerns you then call the vet.

It probably has a lot to do with the infection or the medicine she is on. You should give your vet a call to see if that's a side effect of the medication. Give her some mint flavored rubber chewies and that should help. Also make sure that she doesn't have worms in her poo - when my dog was a puppy she had tapeworms and once we got rid of them the bad breath subsided. Or it could just be "puppy breath." Good luck!

I'm sure it has a lot to do w/ the infection. You can start the habit of brushing your dogs teeth. Like us its a build up of bacteria in the mouth and stomach that cause bad breath. Once the dog is able to start on its own food again (which should be a Premium food - no by products, corn, etc which can cause bad breath) see if there's a change.

Good Luck
