Do you also believe that such people as the Dali Lama, Buddhist Monks,are also pedophiles?

for doctor scurvy.. the priests that harmed those children were all homosexuals when they entered the priesthood. Pedophilia is not caused from celibacy

for scapegoat... what about school teachers who are surrounded by children on a daily basis and are not celibate? There are also many pastors and ministers that are not celibate that are pedophiles

If celibacy led to pedophilia, Catholic priests would certainly be involved in pedophilia since they are celibate. Yet virtually no Catholic priests have been involved in pedophilia. Of course the secular press uses that term to describe the small number of priests who have committed sexual crimes involving adolescent boys. But in fact, these priests are not pedophiles. Pedophiles molest pre-pubescent children. These priests are simply homosexuals, doing what many non-clerical homosexuals do, preying upon young impressionable boys who have begun developing adult characteristics.

Obviously celibacy has nothing to do with this problem, since ...

- 100% of priests are celibate but fewer then 1% have been involved in any such behaviors

- by far the largest group of pedophiles are married men

- the few priests involved in such behaviors are homosexuals, who would not marry a woman even if allowed to do so

- the problem is no less common among Protestant clergy, most of whom are married

- the problem among clergy is no more prevalent than among any other group of adult males

Celibacy does not lead to pedophilia, pedophilia leads to pedophilia. It has nothing to do with lack of sex as it does miswiring of the brain. Celibacy does cause a great deal of sexual repression, but that's the point isn't it? Sexual repression can be shown to lower inhibitions in some cases, but these are only in people who are predisposed to have boundry issues in the first place. There are many more pedophiles in the general populace percentage wise than there are in the small Celibate minority, it's just not as sensational to report on the every-day perverts.

No, that's not true. If that were true, then we wouldn't have all these other pedophiles in the world. The show "to catch a predator" wouldn't have military, doctors, teachers, etc. on there, married men who have children. Celibacy doesn't lead to pedophilia, and it is not a sure cause. After all, there are many priests (many, many, many more then you'd think) who aren't pedophiles, who don't touch anyone and aren't perverts.

This has been an ongoing debate for a long time even in these days. It is cannon regulation and the Pope does not consider that it must be modified. I wager that is what makes the Catholic Church certain from different church buildings. The notion within the church is that you just are not able to serve God and guy whilst seeing that there can be clash of curiosity. As a clergyman you're meant to be a father on your parishioners. This notion stemmed from St. Paul's writings (within the Bible) which declare should you wish to serve the Lord you must be unmarried. A priest or nun offers himself/herself to be a servant of the Lord. But that equal writing is going on to mention, if in case you have disorders being unmarried you must get married. Therefore I suppose that clergymen must get married. More guys could commit their lives to serving God and might be it could cut down the prevalence of sexual abuse within the church. Living a celebate lifestyles is not handy for a tender guy with sexual urges and that is why I clearly consider it's time this regulation be modified.

No, I don't believe that celibacy leads to pedophilia, but I do believe that many pedophiles will becomes priests with the sole intention of curbing their feelings towards children by being celibate.

I know there are some legitimate priests out there, but you can't say that for all of them.

Who believes that? what rubbish there is not a shred of evidence to support it . Pedophilia is the attraction of adults to pre pubescent children it is still uncertain what causes it. It has nothing to do with any orientation or being celibate .

The thing is, celibacy in general Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism is just a precept. Buddhism is a sadisticsex-free philosophy. They don't give sex such an important role, as christianity does.
If you were a catholic priest who has to be reading about women going "a whoring into whoredom for they are whores and their lust is lustful for men and virgins are waiting for you in heaven" and the rest of the erotic novel, every day.... damn, even I would be desperately looking to hump someone's leg at least. So if you are a priest that has a sexual urge and you know an adult won't agree with your deviant needs what would you do? abuse a child that cannot defend him/herself. It's so sick it makes me wonder why the hell does celibacy exist.

What I really think:
Pedophilia is a psychological disease. Acting on these urges is the actual crime. You can think kids are sexy all you want, just don't act on it. I think that maybe some pedophiles that wanted to act on this urge took up the priesthood because of all the access to naive, trusting alter boys.

No (I'll answer this before it's asked) I don't think that being a homosexual is a psychological disease, because that would have to mean that homosexuality was a thing that caused people to do harm to others. Consenting adults having sex is not harmful to any innocents. Personally, I think that nature intends for more homosexuality nowadays to control our overpopulation.

There "may" be a link between Christian celibacy and paedophilia.

I think there is a specific emphasis on sexual activity in the Christian church that might be the crucial factor, this together with a sadistic type of power and control element in Christianity also which could possibly have a link to paederastic acts carried out.

Being a priest gives access to children in faith schools, boarding schools especially and orphanages and care homes etc...it would attract people who are seeking this sort of controlling contact with vulnerable children.
