I just lost my little chihuahua. She was part of the family. I know she was only with us for 2 years but I loved her like my own child. I feel so empty. And I don't know when it's to soon to look for another pet. And if I should go with the same breed or a different one. I like lap dogs. I don't know if getting another dog will make me feel better, I don't want it to be like I'm replacing her either. She died a week ago. I really miss her. So is it to soon to look for another dog?

Two years is awfully young. You might want to figure out why she died at so young an age before you get another dog.

If it was Parvo, you shouldn't get a dog for at least a year. Otherwise the next pup will die of it too.

The only one who really knows if it's too soon for a new pet is you. Getting a new pet is in no way replacing your last dog. My mother who lives alone lost her beloved chihuahua and was distraught over it. About a month later she got a new chihuahua puppy and the two couldn't be happier. She doesn't feel that she replace her 1st dog but is giving a loving home to a new companion. I say if you love the chihuahua breed then stick with it. If your ready for a new puppy start looking and get one. It's never too soon to offer an animal a new loving home. Go for it. I truly am sorry for you loss. I hope this helps.

My deepest sympathies to you in your time of loss. I know where you are coming from and speak from experience when I say that there is no right time to get a new pet.

While she was only with you for 2 years, thats 2 years of wonderful memories that can never be replaced and shouldn't be.

Donate a few dollars to a Animal Shelter in her memory, then adopt a new baby from the shelter. What better way to honor your dearly departed little lady, than to rescue another and give them a new chance at life.

Only time can heal your pain, but if you know that by helping another animal have a happy life, it may help ease some of it.

To help you determine wether or not to get another dog you should go to a breeder, SPCA or a friend with a dog, have a visit and see how this makes you feel. If being with these animals makes you feel better then by all means get yourself another pet. If not then I would wait.....your heart has to be in the right place. When the time comes you will know.

It's never too soon. As soon as you are ready then it is okay to get another pet. So many people think it is a form of betrayal to adopt a new pet right after the loss of a loved one, however, I think it's a good way to help in the grieving process. Not to mention that another dog gets a good parent. As a matter of fact, you will be honoring her by loving another. I'm sorry about your loss but there is no need to feel bad about wanting another dog.

No matter how many dogs you have in your life you can never replace her, she was one of a kind,
But you can share your life with another little dog. And give it a good life and a family that will love him or her for themselves.....not as a replacement. I know I have a Deer Chihuahua and she is a family member and as I say she is my second child. God Bless you and keep the faith.

Honestly the best thing to do would be get another as soon as you can it will help fill that void and it's not just a replacement either because you will have your memories. Just be sure not to compare the new one with your old one because you have to remember all dogs are different and if you do that you might feel resentment in ways to the new one. So sorry for your loss.

It really depends on how you feel. If you feel as though you would be replacing her by getting another dog than you shouldn't get one so soon. You would hate yourself if you replace her so soon.

But of course if you want to get another dog in order to help you with the death of your chihuahua then you should.

Like I said before, it depends on how you feel. Get another dog when you feel ready to do so.

I'm sorry about your loss. And I hope you make the right choice for yourself.

You will know when the time is right, it took me six months to decide to get another dog when I lost my border collie. It sounds like you are a caring person so maybe you could go to a shelter and have a look. I can guarantee that you will come home with a lovely little friend, Good Luck.

No it is not too soon, last year I lost one of my beloved dogs, within a week I had another puppy. Someone told me it was too soon but I found, it helped me and my other dog to get over the loss sooner. It was because, that puppy needed to be trained and cuddled and fed etc. etc. that I was not able to sit and dwell on our loss. And it didn't take long for my other dog to accept a new playmate. I still love my Milo, but he's gone and life must go on too.
