It's not just Fundamentalist Christians that homeschool, but maybe a lot do prefer it.

Well, it's obvious. The sort of person who believes strongly enough in something that they consider it the most important aspect of life is not going to be as likely to pick a school where teaching that sort of viewpoint is actually banned. Schools adopt teaching policies like sex ed that are chosen for secular concerns for the public good, and parents believe they have that concern covered when it comes to their kids.

Many cities here in Canada have alternate religious school boards (esp. Catholic), but homeschooling would seem like an option to those people who want direct control over what their kids learn and don't learn. We don't have to agree with it, but we have to respect it.
