Ok, now here is the truth...........
There is no Federal Law that has anything to do with tattoos.
Each state has there own laws, some don't have any.
So just get online and type in tattoo laws in your state.
I still don't know why people are so insistent on answering question that they know nothing about.
This question/answer................not question/opinion

The answer is yes, but I think different tattoo parlors would have different policies.

I would hold off for a while. I waited until I was 28 to get my first tattoo. I wanted one since I was 16, but realized that our ideals and lifestyle change so much at that age and I did not want to take the chance of being stuck with a design that lost meaning for me.

Yes, they have to give permission...just about all my friends had a tattoo before their senior year....their parents were just that cool i guess...
Plus, i found this thing.....This law also requires that a person under 18 years of age receiving a tattoo or undergoing body piercing must have a parent or legal guardian present and that person must provide written permission from the parent or legal guardian.....I know this is in Indiana, but I'm am almost positive its everywhere....

I tried that when I was 16. I even called the tattoo palor and asked but I couldn't do it until I was 18. It may differ from state to state though so give a local shop a call and ask.

As long as your parents give you a permission you can get a tattoo before you are 18.

It depends on the state and it depends on the shop. Call the shop to confirm.

If the shop is willing to do it for you with no parental consent -- run. That would be a skeezy operation and your health could be at risk.

Oh, and for the love of gods please don't go and pick something off the wall or out of a book. If you're going to get something at this young age (please consider waiting until your 20s) at least make it custom so you don't look like a tool.

One last thing... if it involves barbed wire or Kanji, you're not ready for a tattoo.

with your parent's signature you can get a tattoo, but the question is.......do you really want or need a tattoo? i'm 19 years old with two tattoos that i regret miserably! First, find out what your career will be and decide from there. don't get a tattoo just because thats what's hot in school right now. but it's up to you. GOOD LUCK!

I'm located in the Northeast. Most reputable businesses will not break the 18+ law. However, in CT the age is 16 years old.

In many places, yes. But it varies state-to-state, and even county-to-county. Look up your local laws.

I got my first tattoo at 16 with my dad, and I live in Minnesota. But even though it's legal here, some places still won't do it. So you have to make you ask, because not everyplace will tattoo minors, legal or not.

It is dependent on your state and local laws, and upon the artist your choose. Some artists (which I wish they were all this way) won't do it even though it is legal, others will do it even if it is illegal...those are the ones to avoid because if they are willing to break the law then they probably dont strictly adhere to safety guidelines either.
