you think smoking marijuana is okay, or that it is okay to be disparaging of other people, or that it is okay to call people names, cuss them out or write hateful responses to questions and answers?

Lawrence R. you make a good point about the truth. I do not consider the truth to be hateful.
What I mean by hateful, really is name calling like "moron" or "idiot" names along those lines.

I am a born-again Christian.
I do not smoke anything or use marijuana.
I ask because I have seen someone who does all this and it makes my stomach churn.
It reminds me of when I was a non-believer and I would see this behavior and I would think... if that is Christianity, why bother.

No. We are to distance ourselves from those things that are mind-altering. Scripture warns against drinking to the point of drunkenness. It is hardly a good witness to do the other things you listed.
However, the question arises, "What, in your opinion, is a 'hateful' response?" If someone tells the truth, how is that hateful?

Marijuana: I think all of God's creations have a purpose. Marijuana is a plant, must have been created for a purpose just like wheat, day lillies, grass (meaning the lawn kind), the sun, air etc. Mis use of anything is gluttony.
Disparaging: Jesus Christ call the Pharisees sons of vipers, hypocrits etc. He exposed their flaws. If our comments are aimed at the flaw and not the person, could it be wrong to expose wrong doing or wrong teachings? Christ ran out of the temple those that had turned God's temple into a house of selling. He expressed his righteouls indignation for the glory of God. So it would (a) depend on our motives, and (b) on how we did it.
Write hateful responses: Hate of a person is wrong. Hate of sin, lies etc is not wrong. We should express love of people, but hate the sin (not the sinner) as Christ did.
We are to love God and our neighbor. I want to show my neighbor that I love them by helping them to see that Christ is our only way to salvation.

No, it is not possible to maintain a good witness for Jesus and do or say these things.
The Bible says, by their fruits ye shall know them!

You're right, and that's why I'm not a priest, or a minister. I'm a yahoo, who happens to be a Christian. I'm not here to witness for anyone, I'm here to tell you straight up, "drop the weed", and for the jerks, "stop being a jerk!" (Jesus didn't tell me to say that, but I think he agrees)

Not really, but that's because showing a world you are a good person, that will look at every little thing you do to try and prove you wrong is imposable. That's why I just try to do my best and not worry about it.

I thought being a good witness for Jesus required bearing false witness about everyone else (and the contents of the Bible)
At least, that's what people act like.

None of us is perfect...If you are able to behave and not do the above mentioned sins, I am sure that you will fall short of others that are equally offensive to God,,,That is what grace is for and why Jesus tells us to "judge Not"

NO! A Christian is supposed to be a shining example, letting God's light shine through for all the world to see.
