I live somewhat in the country, about a half hour away from any gym or track, and my parents don't want me running on the road in case someone would abduct me. They also don't want me driving into the city everyday just to run. What can I do??

Is there someone in your area that runs? Why not run together? It is a good way to make friends and the run in more enjoyable with someone rather than doing it alone. There is safety in groups. Running with others also makes the run easier for you, because if you do not feel good sometimes getting out will make you feel better.

Ugh, how horrible! Why would someone abduct you from the country??? No one is ever out there... At least not out here where I live! I think running in the country is way safer than running in the city because there are no people, no traffic, no hazzards... Running with a buddy as suggested a bove is always a good plan. Ask your parents if you can run if you take your cell phone. Keep it in your pocket or something. Or Mace, that would work too. Another option would be to run the distance to a friend's house and tell your mom you will call when you get there. Make sure you call and let her know you made it and are on your way home. That may help reassure her. I always keep my driver's license on me and tell someone where I am gonna run and for about how long in case they need to look for me. Really you have the ideal running environment, the trick is to convince your parents of that!!! Try the little options I suggested and if that doesn't work you may be doomed to the treadmill...

Good luck!!!

Try looking on Road Runners Club of America for a running club near you. I have put the link in to the map. Just click on the State you live in and it will show you all the registered clubs in your state. Hopefully one is near you.

Keep up with the running

find a running partner or join a local running group, there is safety in numbers and it is rare that someone gets abducted.

Try the site below. Find someone with similar fitness goals. Ask one of your parents to go with you the first time you meet them (for safety and so they feel better about things).
