I have a cockatiel (hes 9 years old) and when he poos it stinks. It has only been smelling the last month and wondered if there is anything i could give him?

kel, Did you change his diet? If not call or email a vet ! I have a girl cockatil. I wish I knew for sure.

Hrrrm..... the first thing that comes to mind are breeding poops, which are HORRIDLY raunchy. What does your guy's turds look like? Breeding poop is usually very large because the bird holds in their poop a long time. They hold it in because they're nesting and can't get out to do the bathroom thing as often as they usually would. If your guy has access to a dark spot that he regularly plays or just started playing in, he may have gone into breeding mode. If nothing has changed, I'd see a vet. It sounds suspicious.

I would check with a vet. The only time my tiels have had smelly poo is when they are nesting. It comes from holding it so long. I would be worried that your bird might be harboring an infection.

It could just be that he's been eating too many beetles (our chick has terrible poo with those!) But it shouldn't hurt him, keep an eye on him for a bit, if he seems a bit lethargic or he isn't eating then you can start to worry, but right now I'd say he was fine.

There is also a very fatal infection that causes birds excrements to smell like open sewage, calll your vet

try taking him to the vet i'm sure they will recommend trying him on different food or giving him some antibiotics or something! it's worth a try....hope it smells better soon!! xx
