never heard of it being a disability. generations ago it was considered "bad" and children were often hit and persuaded to use the right hand. i know there are special scholarships for lefties, but never heard the disability thing. i am left handed and do many things with BOTH hands. my children are both right handed. sometimes it can make life a bit harder but enjoy being "unique" and go with it.

Being left handed is not a disability. Back in the "day" left handed people used to have their hands whipped and forced into using their right hand but that was many years ago.I have many left handed people in my family including my 2 year old son.He tries so hard to be like me and use his right but I always tell him he could do it better with his left.

Thru the ages left handed people were treated as either disabled or outright evil. In more recent times we realized that it is not unusual at all, and that it is simply another way of doing things. My wife and I are both right handed. My 2 sons and my daughter are all "lefties". Go figure

Being left handed does mean that you are more 'right' brain dominant

Some religuous types believe it is a mark of the Devil's influence.
The only disability I can see would be when writing or drawing in English (left to right) you'd be rubbing your hand over the wet ink as you write. But then my best friend is a lefty, and he is also on his way to being a successful illustrator... he's better than me, and I'm right handed!

I'm left handed and it doesn't do me any harm! I even have a left handed cheque book - I think all banks in the UK do them now if you ask nicely - I have had one for about 10 years!
Also, we die on average 9 years younger than right handed people - mostly caused by accidents too (because everything in this world is made for right handed people and we are more likely to chop off our heads with a can opener). Although saying that, I have a left handed can opener too!

Although people with disabilities are more likely to be left handed.

It's rare to be left handed. it is not a disability. Do not worry about it and do not ask for a handicapped parking space or an elevator pass at school.
