Simple spanish recipes?

Question

I would like simple spanish recipes. I am half Puerto Rican, but know nothing of it. My mom is German and my dad is Puerto Rican, they divorce when I was young, so I was raised by my mom, and lost contact with my dad--language barrier--I don't even speak it. But I would like simple recipes that I can share with my family--I have a husband(Irish) and 3 kids. I would like to instill some of my nationality into them. Any recipes would be greatly appreciated.

Spanish food is not all the same. You need authentic Puerto rican recipes. Some of the foods are listed below & then you can check the site below for the recipes. Red beans & rice

Rice with grandules (pigeon peas)

tostones (plantains smashed flat & fried twice)

bacaloa (salted cod fish)

emapanadillas (fried pastry crust filled w/ beef, pork, chicken, pizza filling, etc.)

Mofongo (a ball made of mashed plantains, tripe & more)

Modongo (tripe soup)

carne guisada (meat stewed in puerto rican spices- served over white rice)

Sofrito or recaito & sazon & adobo are the most commonly used puerto rican spices to add to your food

Spanish recipes are not the same as Latin american recipes. Some are similar but not all, we cook differently in Spain. Puerto Rico must have some recipes of its own :) so be careful how you use the word 'Spanish' when talking about something else other than the language. When I read your answer I thought you were talking about my country ^^ hehe. Excuse me.

Easy Rice & Gondules (pigeon peas)

Take a can of Jibaron Gondules and strain them then put the beans into a large sauce pan. Heat them until they sizzle a bit. If your family likes spanish olives (w/pimento) add a handful of these.... next add a tablespoon of Goya Olive Oil and some adobo. Then rip open a box of Goya Yellow Rice and add the recommended amount of water. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer 25 mins.

INGREDIENTS

1-1/4 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup and 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1/4 cup and 1 tablespoon chopped green bell pepper
1-1/4 (14.5 ounce) cans canned tomatoes
1-1/4 cups water
3/4 cup and 3 tablespoons uncooked long grain rice
1/2 cup and 2 tablespoons chile sauce
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
1-1/4 teaspoons brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1-1/4 pinches ground black pepper
1/2 cup and 2 tablespoons shredded Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons and 1-1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh cilantro

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Drain excess fat and transfer beef to a large pot over medium low heat.. Stir in the onion, green bell pepper, tomatoes, water, rice, chile sauce, salt, brown sugar, cumin, Worcestershire sauce and ground black pepper.

Let this simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, then transport this to a 2-quart casserole dish. Press down firmly and sprinkle with the shredded Cheddar cheese.

Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro.

Aye! I'm so proud of you for getting back to your Puerto Rican roots!! Although I'm not Latina I love Latina cooking & I have lots of Latinos in my family so I speak spanish somewhat good. PS- I think that some spanish dishes look pretty nasty (no offense) but they taste really good!!!!
