First off, I do have a doctors appointment scheduled, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue...
My 5 year old daughter, for the last 2 weeks has been overly thirsty. I give her tons of water, gatorade, fruit juice, and she is thirsty 10 miutes later. I give her no soda or caffeine since this has started. She has been playing outside alot, but it just seems excessive. Does anyone know what this could be. She shows no signs of dehydration either.

You should go to your doctor and ask to check your child for Diabetes insipidus -- a disease caused by the inability of the kidneys to conserve water, which leads to frequent urination and pronounced thirst.
You should keep track of exactly how much your daughter is drinking....and you should be able to give an exact figure to the doctor for the doctor to take you seriously.
Has she been drinking a lot and urinating a lot too? Keep track of how many times she goes to the bath room.
On the flip side this may be just summer. But better be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Several previous responders are correct, the first thing you want to rule out is diabetes mellitus. Personally, I would suggest you see the doctor today, or at least have your daughter's urine checked for sugar and ketones today. Kids can go into diabetic coma quite rapidly. Other symptoms include wetting the bed, increased appetite in spite of weight loss, and fruity odor on the breath.

The second issue is diabetes insipidus, caused by lack of a pituitary hormone, called ADH. One cannot concentrate ones urine, hence a lot of urine output and a lot of thirst. This, too, requires prompt medical attention.

Sometimes it's merely a behavioral issue - a child develops an unusual craving for water. Usually they sleep all night without waking. Checking the urine, including the specific gravity, first thing upon awakening is one way to diagnose this. Just don't assume it is this and neglect the first two possibilities.

I saw this movie on Disney channel where a boy was suffering from the very same thing...turns out he was just changing into a merman so nothing serious :P

but seriously, if no one in your family has diabetes then you shouldn't worry I doubt the doctor would say anything is wrong.
