Hi there. If you really want to lose the 8 pounds, eventhough that's nothing to worry about, a simple trick is switch to diet pop. Just cutting out the sugar in pop alone will help you lose weight. Another thing to watch out for is High Fructose Corn Syrup. This adds weight very easy and is very hard to lose. Have Mom or Dad, whoever does the shopping, make sure if anything you eat or drink has this in it, that it is the at least the 4th ingredient in the food or drink. Also if something has the corn syrup and sugar added - that's double the sugar.

Really that's all you need to do food wise at your age. The great thing is we are coming into summer. Just go out and play. That will run it off. Also remember, you can lose inches and not lose weight but be healthy. Muscle weighs more than fat.

At your age, honestly, don't listen to charts, girlfriends, guyfriends, etc. All you need is a healthy weight. A healthy weight is where you naturally fall if you exercise every day, get the correct amount of sleep and eat balanced meals. For some people it's heavier, for some it's thinner, but as long as you can play without getting too tired and really do feel good when you are playing, then you are at a healthy weight and you don't need to lose weight.

My daughter is 8. They say she's 10 pounds overweight. She's actually at a healthy weight for her. She feels best where she is now. We had her at the weight the doctor wanted and she felt sick all the time. We let het put on the 10 pounds and she's happy, in a better mood, playful, energetic, much better all around.

Don't look at numbers...look at how you feel. If you feel good where you are then you are at your healthy weight. Remember, there are football players that weigh 350. They would be fat against the doctor's charts, but they are muscle and in shape. They are just larger men. They are still healthy. Look at Wrestlers. Men and Women both. None of them weigh what they should according to doctors charts. Would you consider them fat (Umaga yes, but the others for the most part?) Most are in great shape. They are "Overweight" according to doctor's but you can see they are healthy.

Don't get caught up in numbers dear. Feel your best. That's where you should be.

Hey man. I was once in your shoes. Its very simple. Before you eat anything, lookup the amount of calories in the food. If you are going to eat a fruit raw assume no calories because there are so little. The same goes for vegetables. Once you have a number of calories, make sure you burn off that many, like with a step counter. If you are eating over 2000 calories a day thats abnormal. I would suggest a 1500 calorie a day ""diet"". If you can burn that many calories and more. The lower amount of calories into your body and the more out the faster you lose weight, plain and simple.

As a 5th grader, I'm assuming that you're going through puberty around this time. Weight gain is completely normal during this time, and it usually comes off with growing up, getting taller, etc.

If you're really concerned, or if you're overweight, you may want to start a diet and exercise program [with the help of your parents and doctor]. Play games that require movement, such as the popular Dance Dance Revolution. Even play Wii Games--as long as you're moving. You're too young to worry much about weight, but if you're feeling self-conscious, talk to your parents about it. Use the site below. =]

Today, class, we're going to learn some new words...

1. "Cardiovascular..."...In order to burn of excess fat, the human heart must be used...that leads us to our second word of the day...
2. "Outside..." ...The place a 5th grader must occasionally go to run around and act like a little monkey of outdoor activity...non-competitive sports might be in order, here...swimming, biking, skating, skiing, but the upshot is (we'll learn what "upshot" means tomorrow) that the 5th grader must actually "move" physically in order to be less affected by...
3. "Gravity..." ...The force holding us all to the surface of the planet. In actually "moving" our bodies, we build up muscle tissue and burn up fat, and become less affected by Gravity...eating one bowl of Fruit Loops instead of three with Ice-Cream on top helps, as well...which leads us to our final word of the day...
4. "Self-Control..." ...This means one popsicyle per day...NOT the whole box. But since your're only 11 years old...you won't be required to learn one for the test...

And now it's time for recess...

You may go...

Simply reducing the junk food. Eat only healthy items, such as vegetables and fruit.

Make sure to eat plenty of complex carbs and protein a long with all the vegetables and fruit.

Also increase movement, walking for a 1/2 hour a day with a parent would be good for both of you.

As a 5th grader is this really a huge problem? If it is do not use lots of herbal things... they are just getting the metabolism they need for adult hood and they can screw it up good if they do to much..

Good old watch the diet, and excercise should work...especially on a 5th grader.
