...supposedly divinely inspired tomes? Do you believe a mere mortal could compile a book on par with something like the Bible or Quran? Even if you think the Bible was inspired by God, do you think humans have the capacity to have written it on their own?

I've tried to keep my own opinion out of this. Answers from all perspectives are welcome.

I don't even think those books are as full of knowledge, wisdom, or insight as some others. But yes, I think humans are capable of writing great, insightful works:

Plato's "Republic"
Cervantes' "Don Quixote"
Shakespeare's "Hamlet," "Romeo & Juliet," and "Macbeth"
Melville's "Moby Dick"
Darwin's "The Origin of Species"
Voltaire's "Candide"
Dickens' "Tale of Two Cities"
Thoreau's "Walden"
Watzlawick's "Pragmatics of Human Communication"
Foucault's "The Archeology of Knowledge"
Buber's "I-Thou"
Freud's "The Interpretation of Dreams"
Twain's "Huckleberry Finn"
Shelley's "Frankenstein"
Wilder's "Our Town"

I do believe in divine inspiration and that God inspired some of the things in the bible and Koran but not much. It leaves too much to be desired and has to many humanism's and has a lot of male ego driven stuff . Like we are made in the image of God, who just happens to be a male. It totally discounts females and races other than white males. I have a hard time believing that the bible and the Koran are totally divinely inspired .

I suppose that you also consider the Book of Mormon, the Baghavad Gita and the Rig Veda as divinely inspired. How about the writings of L. Ron Hubbard that form the basis for the Church of Scientology? How about the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Church of Christian Science?

Have you really read the Bible or the Quran? There is not much knowledge or wisdom in either of them. Mostly it is pretty boring history, interspersed with bloodshed and borrowed laws from other cultures. For example, much of the Mosaic Law was borrowed from Hammurabi's Code. Was Hammurabi divinely inspired?

Say: "If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur'an they could not produce the like thereof even if they backed up each other with help and support. (Quran:17:88)
And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary confirming the law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light and confirmation of the law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah. (Quran:5:46)

We believe 'Injeel-The Gospel' was revealed to Jesus Christ in truth from God Almighty,. But current Bible is human, though some, out of zeal which is not according to knowledge, have denied this. Those books have passed through the minds of men, are written in the language of men, were penned by the hands of men, and bear in their style the characteristics of men..

The Bible went on revision after revision. The word of God will be perfect and free from any errors. - http://www.jamaat.net/bible/bible1-3.htm...http://www.jamaat.net/bible/awakearticle...

The Bible is of such a level of accuracy that it could only be inspired by God. Every prophecy in the Bible has either already been fulfilled, or is in the process of being fulfilled. The Quran does not reach this level of accuracy. Neither does any other book in existence. Based on that alone, it is foolish to deny the truth, simply to justify ones rebellion against God.

You may not like my answer, however here it goes, I am just expressing my opinion.

Personally I don't find the Bible 'full of knowledge', 'wisdom', or 'insight'. -- The Old Testament for instance, it is filled with violence and cruelty, personally I find it disturbingly immoral incest, selling daughters, promoting slavery, killing children, etc. . .

The Adam & Eve part, that most of people take literally, it's even too embarrassing to explain it to children.

The Bible was written by men with very little knowledge, and it shows all its ignorance.

Hey there! Yes I do believe any one person caouls write a book, weather it be a 13 years old or a 70 year old male or female! You just have to sit down and think about what your going to write and put all your heart into that particular book! It just depends on the person and how much time they devote into that book and how much inspiration they put into a book and what is going to be about! It can be about you, your best friend, your family, or your cousins, or your cat or dog or about plants or even the bible!!I do believe ANYONE can do it, you just have to put alot of thought into it!!

A human, nor several humans did not "write" the Bible. the Bible was an account of events that ocurred as far back as 5600 years ago. These events were documented in several ways to record the events, not make up stories for bored, cynics to poke fun.

The Bible has over 60 books that were documented by chosen people, like us, to record and capture the very essence of God's work, God's grace and HIs love for us throught the creation, development and glory of nature and humanity.

It isn't just written for your amusment, or anyone's amusement. It was inspired and willed to men on earth for us and generations to come. These accounts are to describe how the world began and how God brought us a teaching of behavior and character in His world. You must know it is not "our" world, it is still "His" world...we just live here temporarily.

I hope that we can all live in peace with one another some day...wouldn't that be better than living with hatred, animosity, jealousy and envy throughout the day..like it is now?

"'If all the humans and all the jinns bonded together in order to produce a Quran like this, they could never produce anything like it, no matter how much assistance they lent one another.'" (Qur'an 17:88)

And if you are in doubt as to which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a sura like it, and call on your helper, besides Allah, if you are truthful. (Qur'an 2:23)

Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy. (Quran 4:82)
