Well obviously religion exists, no one disputes that. And as for there being no god, that is unprovable. There is no possible observation that could ever be made that would prove that no god exists.
Christianity, however, is falsifiable. Let's start at the beginning, shall we? The bible claims that God created everything in more or less its current form about six thousand years ago over a period of about six days. Life and the universe are both far, far older than that, transitional fossils prove we weren't created in our current form, and the difference between the age of the Earth and the time of the Big Bang is along the lines of 9 billion years, so six days is way off.
Of course some people make various excuses for this. Most commonly, people claim either that a 'day' for God is hundreds of millions of years, or that evolution was God's method for creating life. If either of these possibilities is true, then God deliberately lied in Genesis (or 'inspired' a lie, which is the same thing in practice), which would itself contradict the Biblical account of God's character.

You start with the wrong mindset. The default position for anything is non-belief. Nobody ever had to disprove unicorns to me. BTW, it is quite impossible to disprove the existence of anything. EX: Oh, we can't observe unicorns. Well, that's because they are invisible. If we can detect the invisible, that means that the unicorns live on another planet...ad infinitum.
From that point, beliefs need to be based on what we can prove. Christianity makes a claim, that, among other things, there is a God, Jesus was his son (and himself somehow), he created the world in 7 days, etc. It is this claim that must be proven.
Really, what atheists try to do is cause a confrontation that causes people to question their beliefs, because most people don't. It is the only reason why post on boards like this, disputing fundamentalist claims about evolution and Creation and such. Without us, many would forever be blinded by their faith.
We aren't trying to "prove our side" like the religious people do. We know that our side is right because of history, philosophy, and most importantly, science. Not in a faith-based sort of knowledge, but rather an evidence-based knowledge.
In other words, it is not our duty to prove ourselves. We have everything on our side already. It is the religious who must prove themselves.

Christianity stands among thousands of other religions. Each religion has their own flaws, and Christianity is no exception.
A main place to start is the misinterpretation of the Bible. Young Earth Theories, Earth being the center of the Universe, the idea that Noah could actually build an ark so big to hold all of earth's species, this gives the impression that the people reading the Bible have absolutely no idea what it says, or that they do know what the Bible states, and therefore the Bible itself is wrong on many issues.
Another place to go is the Church. It's a very corrupt, and very stubborn system. Not actually accepting the idea that the earth isn't the center of the universe until 1992, all the history behind them (i.e. Inquisition), it's kind of fallen from grace in people's eyes.

Neither atheists nor theists can prove their side.
Christians are actually right about many things. Unfortunately, most of them don't know why they are right. They can't give a logical argument. A logical argument would be thinking things through and in your own words explain why something is right or wrong based upon reality. Quoting from the Bible is not a logical argument, unless you can explain why the quote is based in reality.
Statements like this: "You can't prove a negative." make me laugh. Then why are the atheists in the RELIGION section trying to prove that God doesn't exist? Stop trying to prove a negative.

Here is what you have to understand: the burden of proof is on those who wish to prove that something is true, not that something is false, and as Carl Sagan said, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof."
I have never seen the Taj Mahal in India, but I know it exists. I have seen photos of it diagrams of it and met people who have seen it. Plus, I have seen buildings similar to the Taj Mahal and the Taj Mahal and all the claims made about it conform to things that happen in the real world.
UFOs have been photographed. A lot of people have claimed to see them. Some claim to have been taken into flying saucers. I do not believe them. Flying saucers and extraterrestrial beings go against our current knowledge of physics, mechanics and cosmology. Many so called proofs have been demonstrated as hoaxes, or explained as optical illusion, or mental delusions.
God and Christianity has provided less proof of its validity than UFOs. It makes very grand claims, but offers little or no evidence of its validity. Worse still, it makes claims that bring into question the credulity of the believers, for example, "The Bible is true because it is the Word of God. We know the God exists because the Bible says God exists." Essentially, the claim is that the Bible is true because the Bible says it is true. The concept of God is an extraordinary claim. In the Bible, God from time to time would provide extraordinary miracles that proved his existence. No one has witnessed such miracles these days. Other ancient writings, discredited by Christians make similar claims about other gods or heroic beings. If they are false, why is the Bible true?
Consider two other religions, the Mormons and Scientology. The history and origin of these two religions are well documented and they have numerous followers. Consider Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. They have the same burden to prove their validity, yet Christians generally consider them false by holding those faiths to standards that they themselves are unwilling to meet.

well, it's not proof, but one quote I heard once went something like "I contend we are both athiests. THe only difference is I believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all other gods, then you'll understand why I dismiss yours."
THe other thing is that, until mankind came up with the concept of religion, there was no such thing as athiesm or religiousness. Religion became recognized; and therefore religion was "the new kid on the block" and as such, the burden of proof falls on it; not on the status quo.

I'll converse with you via email, but I'm not going to have a conversation via Yahoo Answers. That is not only against the rules, but mind-numbingly dull, trying to scroll through all the edits.
That's why I allow people to email me, regardless of how much hatemail I receive. :)
Edit - And no, I didn't say I can prove god does not exist. I cannot prove that anymore than I can prove Santa does not exist. I can, however, prove a multitude of things that Christianity (the supposed word of god) is completely wrong about.

The Bible is admittedly a compilation of supposed divinely inspired workings of the word of God. There are many anonymous authors, and books have been added and taken away throughout the ages. Meaning this: God's word whether or not any of it is true, has been altered by man for his own benefit. This makes it impossible to determine which pieces are fit for worship, and which pieces have ulterior motives. That being said, how can this book be fit for worship? If this book is not fit for worship, how can it be the basis of a belief system for 2 billion people? Simple really, ignorance.

As you have noticed, the answer you quoted was false. Atheist are people who do not believe in a God. We certainly can not prove his non-existence.
Of course we can't prove that there are absolutely no fairies, or the non existence on subterranean unicorns on Neptune. It is simply that some calms do require a reason to believe them, that causes most people that do so to live with out belief in a God.

I consider myself to be a Christian. But, that doesn't mean that people who are atheist don't have strong evidence to support their belief. In fact, they have more evidence to prove that God doesn't exist than what we have that He does.
Our "Proof" is simply nothing more than FAITH. True, there have been claims that people have seen God, but they can just as easily be falsified. Neither I, nor any other Christian can "prove beyond a reasonable doubt" that God exist. Nor will we ever be able to. Like I said, it is simply based upon faith.
