thanks everybody for your comments and encouragement. i didn't have the money for the vacci. shot but we gave her a 7 - in 1 shot which my aunt said would do the same. i have thrown all her toys and bowls and blankets away and cleaned the house as much as possible. i also call twice a day to check on her and i went to the vets monday and tues., i miss her so much and i know this is an up and down virus, but i just hope she starts being up and no more downs, i also think that we caught it very early so i pray that that is also a help. i will definitely dig up money next time to keep up on any shots that she needs or any other pets that i get. thanks guys and i will definitely let you know because she is my beautiful baby girl (just like a child to me since i don't have any real children) and i appreciate all of your thoughts, thanks, melanie

The good news is she's been hanging in there since Saturday. And that you got her to the vet in time to help her. Have you been going to see her so she doesn't feel abandoned on top of being sick? We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you and your little girl. Good luck!!

I am so sorry to hear about your dog getting parve. I have had this experience twice! If caught in time, you will have no trouble with her recovery. Ours go her shot at the vets and we were able to obtain all her medications and cared for her at home. It was really hard because we were basically nursing her every two hours. We weren't able to afford the fees for either to stay in the vet.
One bit of advice- throw away all her toys, eating dishes and rid the area of anything she may have gotten in her mouth. The bacteria can give any other dog the same sickness. In the yard, get rid of the poop. The bacteria can remain active for up to 10 years!
Vigorously clean everything else she may have contact with like the couch, carpeting, etc. You don't want to take the chance of her catching it again or another dog that may enter the area getting it.
BTW, did you notice the smell associated with the sickness? I did! the first time, I was like this smells weird and then she became sick. The second time- I noticed the smell before there were any indications the dog was sick. I told me dad and he said he noticed it too. Then about 2 days later, teh symptoms began. Isn't that so strange???

I'm sorry about your puppy. Parvo is a nasty illness that puppies rarely survive. Try to spend as much time with her as possible. I know that you are grieving, but in an attempt to prevent future sadness, you need to not bring home another puppy for at least one year. Parvo is very contagious and can live in your yard for at least one year. If and when you do get another puppy make sure you get it vaccinated as soon as possible and don't take it into public until it has had all of it's shots.

See if you can visit her. Maybe you can volunteer at the vets (could help with your bill!) and you will get more time to see her.

You also need to be treating your home and yard. EVERYTHING where the dog has been should be bleached. Bedding thrown away, etc. Even the yard should be sprayed with bleach (it will kill your grass - but you DON'T want this virus around to spread). The virus will live up to 9 months in your home and yard.

if u dont have the money for shots why dont u get pet insurance u pay a bit each week and if ur dog get ill again shes covered for any treatment needed. make sure u disifect all carpets and clean the curtains and when she comes home give her liver to build up her immune system.

Hope she gets better soon xx

A parvo shot would only have costed 7 to $15 . Don't clean your home with bleach, it's dangerous for pets. Check out drsfosterandsmith.com, they have cleaners that are harmless to dogs and kill almost every disease. I have a kennel you'd never see my cleaning with bleach anywhere where my dogs are kept !

If you didn't have money for the vaccine, then how are you paying for the treatment? A parvo vaccine would normally cost from 8-15 depending on your vet and the treatment will cost at least1,500.

Why was the puppy not vaccinated, parvo is totally preventable, horrible disease. Sorry about the pup, but you have learned a hard lesson, our pets require at the least vaccinations

Parvo is a really bad puppy disease...some of my puppies i had before dies from this if you want to keep this puppy you must keep it in the animal hospital....chances are if you took him to the vet early enough it will survive..but if you got it there to late it will probably die...sorry to say..but yes.

I'm sorry about your puppy. If you really love animals, go to a dog park and play with other dogs. That's a tough one though because it might make you sad even more. Try to keep yourself busy and stay occupied. The more you do, The less time you have to be sad. You'll also have more positive thoughts that way.
