the statement may not be technically accurate, but I sit back and see a similarity. maybe because Religion has a role in politics, but on here (GENERALLY) no matter what a Christian says they are wrong to atheists and others and no matter what an atheist says they are wrong to Christians and others EXCEPT on them rare occasions.

I'm not criticizing, belittling, or being disrespectful to any group but does anyone else see similarities of the sort?

I wasn't referring to the parties and religion but rather how they act toward one another

Yes, good analogy.

It's funny to see the responses that say, "No, Atheism isn't wrong, there's nothing wrong with Atheism". lol You folks have utterly missed the point and need to go back and retake your SATs. :-)

I'm afraid I will have to disagree with you. Religion and Atheism are not necessarily mutually opposing. Atheism isn't the opposite of religion, it is just a belief that there isn't a God. Atheists can be religious, eg. Buddhists.
However, should you ask about their religion, there are a large number of atheist who would answer that they have none. It is these people who can be regarded as the direct opposite to religion. Generally this is different from the comparison you would make between Republicans and Democrats. Both of them are political parties, both with their own political views. Non-religious people are on the other hand just the collection of people who do not have a religion. It's just like people who are non-Republican, these are people who disagree with the Republicans, but that doesn't necessarily make them Democrats, they could disagree with the Democrats too!

As a Christian I am open to debate:

This is all I have to say to atheists:

Has man ever seen an atom?
The correct answer to this is NO!
Yet be believe that they exist.

If they (atheists) are right about when we die then we will just all go back to dirt.
However if we are right then what????????
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do I see a comparison...NO!
They are just fighting for votes and now that the Democrats are finding out that the homosexuals only make up 3% of the population and the pro-abortion people only make up about another 10% they seem to be finding there religion to this year.

I think as the years go bye they will find a little more each year. 87% of Americans proclaim religion.

The Republican Party attempted to make it look like ALL of the Democrats aren't religious, which is completely false. This is in part due to the influence of the religious right on the Republican Party - it is a large part of their voting bloc, and without them, George Bush could not have been elected president. As to whether or not religion has any place at all in politics, we are supposed to have "freedom of religion" such that religious interests do not determine government policy. The reality of this is not the same as the ideal - religious interests have a big influence on government policy because of politics.

I'm an atheist.

On the flip side, I don't have much argument against the two Great Commandments of Christianity, albeit a rephrased version of the first: "Love universally with all your being." Of course, then the second becomes redundant.

Just because I don't agree with the faith, doesn't mean I ignore what moral lessons can be found in it.

I agree in a way.
You got to think about how we live our life... and how they live theres.
Have you read half the stuff they say on here? Kinda rude, I think.
I agree... some Christians could have lighten up and not be so rude as well.
But not all are like that.
The Christians you find that are rude. Are people who are fake and DONT walk with Jesus.
I dont know if you believe or not but i have nothing against you.

There are some similarities in the divisions, but there are far more than two parties in the religious system. I think a lot of Americans forget that it isn't just Christian or not-Christian.

Only in the United States, honey. The rest of the western nations in the world have learned not to mix politics and religion.

And it still makes no sense to me at all that Christians are Republicans in the US. Jesus was a liberal, not a conservative and the Republicans are all about the money while paying lip service to the things Christians like to get their vote.

I was in a cult for about 25 years, and since getting out, have done a great deal of research on cults and cult tactics.

What I find interesting is that the Democratic party uses nearly all the cult tactics to influence people to go their way.

Frankly I think there's a lot less difference between dems and the GOP than between atheists and religious people.

You're right that things have gotten really partisan...but aside from that point it's not a great analogy, imo.

Yeh not sure, but certainly looks like the republicans get a lot of support from the christian right. I think this could be dangerous, because that section of society tend to be religious zelots who like to take the bible literaly. History has showed that a literal bible interpretation tends to make people suicidal. more spirituality, less ignorance, less zelots is best. GO DEMOCRATS!
