Your soul lives on. The soul is your substance. The soul is what you experience & feel. A person won't be dead in Hell. They will burn without burning up for eternity. Very sobering thought. That is why I choose to be a Christian. What if, just what if there is something to this "God" thing and the idea of heaven and hell. Wouldn't it be better to believe than take that eternal chance. I have seen some of your answers and you can be very kind at times. I would hate to see you "miss the boat" and have to experience what I just mentioned. You are playing around with fire and if you don't watch out you will get burned. Before you want to slam me for preaching about going to hell...........don't forget........YOU ARE THE ONE WHO ASKED THE QUESTION. IT IS MY JOB TO ANSWER HONESTLY BASED ON MY BELIEF SYSTEM.

The idea that hell is literally filled with material fire is just a myth.
The pain of Hell is mental. It was compared to fire, because the constantly burning trash dump of Gehenna, outside Jerusalem, was a fitting image for eternal suffering.
The pain of Hell will be our regret at not having lived a better life. When we are not comfortable in the presence of God, and because of our own poor choices, must be shut out from his presence, it will be the source of eternal shame and torment in our mind.
No real flames, but it will be a comparable mental torture, inflicted on us by our own selves.

for quite a few years... I've had my share of studying the bible for spiritual reasons, and yes i have come to understand that in the eternity all lakes will be dried up and all tears wiped away and if i had a love one in the literal fire burning in hell i think i would shed a tear for that person, but remember all tears will be wiped away !!..even the lake of fire which is figurative but it will burn your spirit not literally but just knowing your not going to make it to the eternity and that your souls will end is painful enough, their is scripture that comes to mind that gives an example of of your souls that departs like the smoke that ascends from calf that is being burnt on the alter...are souls will be no more.......those that preach fire and brimestone mean well but it's not bibically accurate if you are willing to go to the Hebrew,...................... I think I will take up some more studies so i might answer these question better.....over and out!

I'll get thumbs down because this isn't a serious question but I'm amazed at how some religious people actually believe that there is some kind of region somewhere where you go and are poked with pitchforks and made to stoke red hot fires by guys with tails and horns or where there are people who just moan and weep all day or maybe you are forced to listen to rap music all the time. The point is they don't realize that hell is a state of mind and there is weeping and moaning and all manner of mental and emotional misery all around us and for some, within us. People have to get more 'now' about their belief systems if they ever want to approach anything resembling reality.

At death all of your senses cease because your brain (the command center that stores your capacity to see/hear/smell/taste/feel/etc.) shuts down.
From a physical standpoint that would mean that a fiery hell would do nothing but consume your useless body in a matter of moments.
Of course, from a metaphysical standpoint fire seems to be irrelevant anyway, because everything that I've read in the Bible (along w/ a little common sense) would suggest that any soul/spirit material that could survive whatever manner of physical death we are subject to probably would be impervious to the hottest furnace.
Duh!!! (directed to those whom it may concern, you know who you are).

Aw,here's the rub! No one goes into the Lake of Fire until they have been resurrected. Then they have a body that cannot die,and now you burn forever.
Everyone gets resurrected, good and bad.I should say justified and unjustified. The just are (if dead at the time) resurrected at Jesus ' return, then "we who are alive and left, will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air",St. Paul says. That is the "Rapture"(I Thessalonians)
Then after a thousand year reign of Christ on Earth, the unjust are resurrected ,judged and thrown into the Lake of Fire.(Rev.19 -23)
Right now ,when the evil die, they are kept in isolation in Hades until the end.No parties in Hades,no friends just misery.

Jesus Christ shows in His death & resurrection...that we have eternal spirit like our God (as we are created in His image & likeness). That`s His mission to show to the world the importance of maintaining good spirit for our future existence.
Revelations says: some died (others long died but physical body be restored), some never experience death on the time of facing Jesus 2nd coming..."judgement will be served by then"...thus we can expect, our body will feel the heat of fire which will never go away and won`t consume us to death (deathless) which makes us uncomfortable/sufferring eternally
...+ the absence of God and its hopeful forgiveness (as we lost the chance of forgiveness since we died from our lifetime.
Knowing these things earlier will give us the chance to change our life for the better while we are still alive to ask for God`s forgiveness, ally with Him and rejects Satan`s sins and evilness...or as expected...you will be joining satan in hell.
Somebody from our world had seen already Heaven & hell conditions, warning us for the better future...so, why not take heed of the warning ???
Take your pick ???
Good luck!!! and Be blessed!!!

From my point of view, the Christian point of view, Hell is the worst thing that will EVER happen to you. It's not just the fire (which will hurt i guarantee) it's so much more. Why would you ever take your chances, when you could be in Heaven, the best thing that could happen to you. And from a non Christian point of view, even if religion back fires and there is no point in wasting your time.... wouldn't you rather live your life believing and find out that there was nothing to believe in, than live your life not believing and find out there was...?

Hell or hades is mankinds common grave. Hell (graves) will soon be gone forever. Jesus will resurrect all the dead who are in hell (the grave) and these will be given the wonderful opportunity to come to know the true God. That is why the book of Revelation tells us that Jesus has the keys to hell. He will use those symbolic "keys" to empty all the memorial tombs.
PSALM 139:8--"If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there." ( no torture shown here)
PROVERBS 15:24--"The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath." (even the wise are in hell (grave) and are able to depart from it.)
JONAH 2:2--"And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice." (the fish would have been Jonah's grave (hell) had God not rescued him)
AMOS 9:2--"Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down" (kinda hard to "dig" into fire)
Satan loves it when God is made out to be a cruel, unloving and heartless God. That is why many stop believing in him.
The hellfire doctrine is one of the many tools the devil uses to turn people away from worshipping God.
Those who answered saying that the soul lives on failed to read Ezekiel 18:20 which clearly states --"The soul who sins is the one who will die."
They overlooked this verse also at Revelation 16:3--"And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea."
The dead cannot feel pain---"For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not anything--" Ecclesiastes 9:5
"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, (sheol) where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom."--Eccl 9:10

Hell is not a physical location but is in the spirit realm. That's why Jesus could make these statements when describing what it would be like.
Mark 9:43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter into life maimed, than to enter having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 44 where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'
Jesus paints a picture of unending torment. It is uncertain whether that will be a feeling of pain like being burned with fire and of having one's flesh being eaten away by worms or if that is just symbolic language describing the agony of being separated from God for all eternity from whom all good things come.
Sinners who have not repented of their lusts will find no outlet for their sinful desires in the life to come that's why Jesus spoke in another passage of what happens to the damned in this way when talking about trying to be justified in God's sight in the filthy rags of our own self-righteous deeds instead of being clothed in the forgiveness that comes through faith in the blood of Christ as atonement for our sins.
Matthew 22:10 "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there not dressed with wedding clothes. 12 So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothes?' And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up hands and feet, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 "For many are called, but few are chosen."
Whether it is a place of fire or a place of darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth as lost souls bewail the hopeless eternity that looms before them because they rejected the gift of God's Son on their behalf.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
