I have no real issues with people believing whatever they like, as long as it stays personal to them and doesn't harm others, but why is it that with billions of people following different religions (eg christianity, islam, sikhism, buddhism) can't they see that each of them has at best, only a 1 in 4 chance of being right?

Which means that at least 75% of religious people are following something that is wrong.

Sabbonist - every muslim, hindu, sikh etc believes exactly the same about their religion, which is exactly my point.

I've found them blinkered when asked about things which are really openly difficult to believe. They tend to answer with "I just know"

"I just know" the sun will rise every morning, but thats because I also know that it performs an orbit of the earth.

Their logic seems somewhat less founded than that, and when you shake something which has loose roots, it wont be long before it comes down. Probably on top of you.

The same can be said for science.

There are, at last count, 6 different string theories. EACH faction is religious about their theory and views the others as, logically, not being correct.

What's your view on that. The minority (most Scientists don't subscribe to any Sting theory) view you and everything else is made up of tiny one dimensional strings.

What's your view on the Tachyon. I say it's possible.

If you're in the US what's your stand on the illegal immigrant issue. Remember, 90% of them are Catholics. We are talking about adding 11 million Catholics to the legal American pool.

I don't personally approve of their marches. I don't personally think what is being considered is fair taking LEGAL immigrants, such as the Hindus, Shiks, Muslims and Persians and Arabs into account who did what they had to do legally to get into the US.

Well if all of those religions are valid then EVERYONE is going to hell. And the chances of them being right isn't 1 in 4. It is 0. All religious 'knowledge' is socially constructed therefore cannot be correct

I think so, i think its all just a cover up so that they don't have to deal with "real issues" as they always said "pray and god will decide" to me its the cowards way out, we are stronger people as WE deal with our emotions and problems, not someone no one has ever seen before. Its all just HOPE!

No I'm actually religous and I do just fine. But then again I'm an incredibly skeptic Hindu who generally sides with atheists around here while tearing down ridiculous fundamentalist "thought."

The great thing about truth is that it will have no lies or contradictions in it.

The great thing about the Bible is that, while there may be ten thousand ways to interpret it wrong, logically it stands that there will be one way to interpret it right.

The great thing about that "one way to interpret it right" is- you can use it to rule out the ten thousand wrong ways- and you will be left with an understanding that shows the Bible as a seamless book with amazing power but no contradictions!
