I don't sit around every Christmas and wait for Santa to show up at the mall and harrangue him. So why do Athiests do it to God?

Gee...judging by all the answers, I have offended a great many people. Sorry about that! Just curious. I'm not a "crammer" like you might think. Some of you gave very intelligent answers - thanks for your credible insight. Others wanted to brandish me on capitalizing "Athiests". Others were not so nice and downright ignorant, giving your "kind" a bad name. Nevertheless, I have my answer. Thanks.

I believe that still small voice is speaking to them and it makes them uncomfortable. They think it is Christians offending them but it is actually the holy spirit convicting them instead.

I don't believe that Atheists are offended by God, they're offended at the way Christianity is continually shoved down their throats.

I have a couple of good friends that are Atheists, We occasionally have discussions about theology (among other things) and they have no problem with it. They have commented to me that they appreciate a mutually inclusive conversation instead of a force-feeding of religious doctrine.

It's one thing to get the word out there where non-believers can see or hear it if they choose to but the "in-your-face" attitude is what's offensive. I even find it quite annoying and I'm a Christian!

I'm not an athiest but I am a Muslim, and I would like to speak on everyones behalf because I don't believe athiest are offended by the concept of God, they just dont like anyone trying to convince them that one exists. There is nothing wrong with a good cnversation on spirituality but some people don't like it when people start throwing verses of any holy book at them. This might go for you as well, I dont kno what you are but you wouldn't like someone trying to convert you. .... As a Muslim I believe it's my duty to spread the word of Allah BUT... I wouldn't do it if i feel someone will truly be offended, if they are willing then I more then welcome them to a talk.

Good question though, because askng is better then assuming.

I cannot talk for other religions, but Christianity is suppose to be about Love and treating everyone like you want to be treated... (don't see nothing wrong with that right? Who would?) Well the problem is.. if someone doesn't follow gods word and live a Christian life then you will Go to hell (dosen't sound to Good).

It is MY belief that many people refuse religion because they don't want to have to answer for what they do in life. The bible doesn't tell us to "stuff religion down your throat" but rather teach about God in a loving and peaceful way.

The bible is often misquoted with what "Christians" say and anyone who played that telephone game knows it gets reworded and messed up, but instead of actually looking in the bible to see what it says they would rather criticize Christianity's as a whole and say the whole religious group is wrong based on one persons input who prob made a statement the bible does not even say or someone who misquotes the bible.

The bible tells us there will be false teaching and prophecies and many people will turn from God because of that. The world has become so corrupt most people do not want to go against the world because as we all know physiologically people are about here and now instead of seeing the overall picture.

God Bless

This has been asked and answered innumerable times. Atheists are offended because we feel surrounded by hardcore Christians who are trying to create a theocracy. They want the laws of their religion imposed upon all citizens of this country. America is supposed to be a country of free religion. We're just fed up with having to fight the majority to keep things this way.

Short Answer: It's not God, it's his followers.

Sorry, but I always capitalize the first letter in my sentences.

Atheists are not offended by god. They do not believe in god. They get upset when people try to convert them, try to make them participate in another religion, or make them observe another religon.

If all christians made a promise to never force their religion on people who do not believe in their religion then things would be a lot better. Also, get christians to stop trying to change science so that it reflects their views. It has never worked for them in the past, why should they think they could do it now?

I can't be offended by an imaginary being. What I do get offended by are the followers of this god trying to force their opinions onto everyone and into every aspect of public life. Can we make religion a personal issue again, and keep it personal?

I'm not offended by god. He doesn't exist. I'm a 'god' because I control events in my life. I do hate Xtiananity though. Many years ago innocent witchs were burnt at the stake for 'heresy' for there own self belief and yet the money making blind oppressing religion of Xtiananity is affecting the minds of idiots guilty of self deciet and denial. The end product is that I hate the way people call themselves XTain and sit back thinking they are a good example of a human being. don't be fooled. I really feel for the pagans/witchs that were killed in the name of 'christ'.

Let's see now. Atheists and Agnostics make up 5% of this country and yet they have managed to get Religion out of Schools, get silly science into schools (I was taught PLUTO WAS A PLANET), get Christmas displays taken down.

They are winning and yet WHINING because the 80% majority is fighting back and not gaining much ground!

Boy, that's what I call sore winners!

Here is the fact of life. If Christians EVER wake up and bind together with a very generalized plank and hire ONE, just ONE top Washington lobbiest hired gun, Jesus would be in the Constitution in 7 years, tops.

The Bible would be manditory reading.

The only thing keeping this from happening is infighting between the factions, but unite them in just 5 or 6 things, let them plow their TITHS into a lobbiest who walks in to congress and tells them they vote or get voted out and then goes back and tells ALL the Christians who to vote out, do that a few times and you'll have a government who fears the RELIGIOUS MAJORITY.

You want us to try. I'll give it a shot. I'll find 5 things Baptists, Mormons, Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists (that's 70% of the country) can get behind about RELIGION and find the best lobbiest out there and plow $$$ into him and rig a few elections. It's legal to do in America.

That's how the UNIONS succeeded between 1935 and 1965.

They don't harangue God, but those people who make God an assumption they cannot avoid. They see belief in God as anti-intellectual, which for many people it is. But remember that most great thinkers in past centuries were believers of one stripe or another, even Darwin. Their belief in God was compatible with their belief in the scientific method because they were not fundamentalists.

And atheists rarely capitalize the term.

Did you just equate Jehovah to Santa Claus?

I mean, that's fine. If you think he's an imaginary being that exists to bring out the best in people, that's cool. See, the difference is that as people get older, they give up believing in Santa Claus.

You don't see any politicians on television saying,"I'm pro-life and anti-gay marriage because I don't want Americans to end up on the Naughty list and get coal this December 25th."

You do see politicians talking about what "GAWD!" wants for America.

So the silly imaginary One True God concept affects us regardless of what we believe about It.
