Ok so we've been dating for 2 years, and have lived together for 1 1/2 years. I want to get engaged at least, we can wait awhile to actually get married. But he says he just doesn't want to. How do I not be selfish while at the same time make him see that my feelings are important too?

We'll currently I am living with my bf of 2years and it's great. We talk about any and everything. He is my best friend, I can trust him with anything. I'm learning more about what he likes and dislikes and that makes things better. Of course the sex is good(2 to 3x a day) and I love the idea to waking up to the same man everyday. He says he wants to marry so I guess this is my crash course. Marriage Life 101. Hope this helped.

Why would he marry you? You are already giving him everything. Men who love their women devote their live to them and marry them, not shack up. There is nothing good about cohabitation before marriage. People who do that want all of the benefits of marriage and none of the responsibility and commitment. Basically you are being an unpaid whore. So if you want more out of your relationship I suggest you move out and make him do things the right, honorable way. If he doesnt you know he is not the man for you.

I think the biggest thing is, if by chance it wouldnt' work out, when you left, it won't cost you half (as far as assets). You can make a clean break and you don't have to fight over possessions, including rings if you aren't engaged.

The drawback is, of course, that debts you incur are 100% your responsibility.

But again, the biggest advantage is to be able to walk away cleanly without having to hassle over personal property.

Well I wouldn't know but to me that'll be a great way to see if you two can get along living with each other and getting to know each other that way before thinking about getting married yea know what I mean.

you will be able to go to sleep and wake up with the person you love, but be prepared to find out things like dirty socks and underwear or the fact that he does not clean up after himself. But if you do get engaged you are all ready for marriage.

you get to be with the one you love each and every day what is better than that
