Hi there,
I wandered if anyone knew of anywhere that did help with price of dog castration? I mean like the cats protection league gives you a voucher to help with getting a cat done?My year old jack russell needs doing as he has started spraying and the vets wont do a payment plan/. It is roughly £70 to get him done and i dont have that much money to myself at the minute to do it. Any ideas???

Right for those of you who are saying things like 'you took on the financial responsibility'.
I have recently been made redundant from the hospital i worked in and that is why i havent got the spare cash as i also have a son to provide for.
At least i am not one of these people who throw their pets onto the streets at the first sign of trouble.
So why dont you think before you speak -!

Try a humane society or seeing you are in England I would image seeing as the cost is in pounds maybe the RSPCA.

If these won;t help maybe you can put it on a credit card and pay over a couple of months.

Since you put 70 pounds?, not dollars, are you not in the USA? In the USA there are many low cost clinics and organazations such as Friends or Animals that give vouchers for low cost neuters. Also a diff vet might be less or hold checks. Ask at shelters or google your area. The best time is to get them done b4 they start hiking a leg but do it as soon as you can.

Are you sure you aren't pouting because your dog doesn't have testicles anymore?? I don't think there is a problem with your dog's activity level & there is certainly nothing wrong with his brain. I think the problem is with your attitude & perception of things. There are plenty of neutered top performance dogs out there. I see them everyday. There has been no change in their drive, their intelligence, nor their working ability. Your dog isn't any different. Quit whining, get up & do something with him! A lazy dog is the product of a lazy owner! If you want him to do more, get busy!!!!! Neuter or don't neuter your dogs in the future. Doesn't matter to me. It's a personal choice. All I care about is if people are going to keep intact animals that they are responsible enough to manage those intact animals. For the average pet owner......let's face it, they aren't reponsible enough! That's why people preach spay & neuter!

whats the rush?

your dog won't become an aggressive animal just because he has not been castrated. It also does not mean he will take off every time a ***** is in season if you have a secure yard which he can't escape from you have nothing to worry about.

local authority dog warden services may help with castration fees in some areas. I personally would not have a dog castrated until it is two years old anyway. and then only if he was always attempting to escape when there is a ***** in season

Don't feel guilty for having a dog. Even poor people love pets. I don't know about cost in the UK, but in the states it costs around $220-$250 to have a male altered. If he is already spraying, it might not solve your problem. It works best when it is done while they are younger.
Don't they have a desexing shot they can give that is available in the UK? It is a short term fix.

Try an spca, or similar. We have things like that in the States. And your right, not having a lot of monet does not make you an irresponsible pet owner. Things happen that you don't plan for.

In the US here there are spay/neuter clinics around. Try searching for something like this. I would call an animal shelter or animal rescue organization in England to ask them about this.

You could contact the PDSA. If you are struggling at present that's what they are there for.
If they cannot help the RSPCA might look favourably on someone who wants to do the right thing but has fallen on harder times.

Good Luck

No. No such thing. You took on financial responsibility when you bought the dog.

However, if you do not yet have a dog, get a rescue dog and it will probably already be done.

EDIT

Hey! I can't read your mind dude! Like I know you were made redundant yeah? Sheesh!

There are charitable vetinary surgeries out there for people who cannot afford vetinary bills for the right reasons.
