I am not sure if God and satan truely exists, but with all of the horror that has been brought on the world by christianity in the past-crusades, inquisitions etc. and in the present-money laundering, child molestation etc. Sometimes i get the feeling that christians are really under the influence of a darker power and maybe God is really what satan is portrayed as-evil.
What do you think?

I think I wouldn't want to be you when I die and have to face God after calling him satan. Anyway, you can't blame God for the evil that people do. God gave people free will to choose good or evil. Some - even Christians - sometimes choose to do evil. Humans do a lot of stupid things in life and you just have to remember that life is like a school - try to learn from mistakes and move on. God doesn't teach or influence people to do the evil, corrupt, or misguided things that they do.

You must understand that God created all of us with a thing called "FREE WILL", which give us the choice to follow right or wrong (Christians and satan included). You have just generalized and stereotyped all Christians into one tiny box negative box. You have to realize that just because someone proclaims that there religion is Christianity, it does not mean that that individual is displaying the true life of a Christian. You have to remember that you can claim any religion you choose, but that does not mean that you follow it's principles. As they say these people that do such harm and destruction are the exception and not the rule, when it comes to being a Christian. There are many religions and beliefs systems in the world and it is both unfair and biased to think that Christianity is the root of all evil. Besides Christianity is a younger religion compared to some others, so where did evil come from before Christianity developed. All religions have there flaws and none are perfect, and if you ask most REAL and TRUE christians like myself, they will tell you the same. So many portray Christians and self-righteous and judgemental, but they never truly allow themselves to know real Christians ( they don't realize that they are judging us, accusing us of the very thing they are guilty of). Your assumption is like a non-American assuming that every American is an EVIL bloodthirsty MURDERER because some of them support the war. Most people would find that assumption ignorant and untrue, it's the same principle here. Hope this help!

The world of professed Christianity after the death of the apostles has apostatized it's self to the point of serving God with their lips, but their actions prove there works.
You are right the majority of Christians are under a dark power. If you studied the scriptures more you would realize that God is not responsible for these things. On the other hand he has provided a way out for those earnestly seeking truth. Heb 11:6.
Jesus said that the gate was narrow Math 7:13,14
If you want to gain everlasting life, and for the right reasons then you will make an effort to study and gain accurate knowledge, this knowledge will protect you and put you on the road to everlasting life now and future. Read John 17:3

Under the banner of police badges, all manner of evil has been done both in the past and in the present. Mild corruption on up to terribly sinister evil. Are we wise men then if we brand all police as evil and call for their agency to everywhere be abolished?

Obviously not! This analogy shows the fallacy of specially selecting a minority of events which clearly do NOT represent or reflect the reason and ethics which any belief system or cause stands for... in order to demonize it. Examine the actual representative beliefs of Christianity by studying the teachings of Jesus- then you'll know what Christianity STANDS for- and be able to recognize all posers and pretenders who seize the name but do not remotely reflect the cause.

I can only hope that intellectuals are honest and REALLY start to think what they say through.

If we are all wrong then it will be of no consequence. Faith requires that one believe in the absence of that which may be observed. Christianity has certainly brought on more than it's share of what is wrong in religion with the Inquisition and impositions of the crusades. Islam today imposes monsterous punishments called Sharia and imposed in the name of Allah.

I am a Christian but am not influenced easily and indeed, 'evolved' in this state of being from hours of study. The corroborating scientific data evident in the fossil record is compelling. I don't call this power under which I am influenced to be 'dark.' Moreso, it has brought me into the light and opened my eyes that I may see.

You'll get a lot of people starring you for this question.

Christianity has a lot of issues, people who deny that need to start living in the real world. But "money-laundering, child molestation etc" are not problems specific to Christianity. Come on, you really can't say that fairly.

If God is evil, then how did all the good stuff get into the world? Maybe there is some force of evil, but then if that created the world...then we're all evil.

I know Christianity as an institution is light years off perfection, but its not the source of all the world's problems. And im not going to waste your time listing its positives, but there are probably as many of them as there are negatives.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I think you're reading way too much into something that's not really there. Perhaps I'm biased (because I am a Christian) however, to me it's really a matter of there simply being good people and bad people in the world. As a Christian, I think this is the hardest thing to say but let's put God aside for a moment. Not everybody believes in God. But there are plenty of nice friendly athiests. There are plenty of not-so-nice athiests as well. The same rule applies for those who believe in God. Beleiving in God doesn't facilitate being good or evil. Beleiving in God is means to an end : working towards one's salvation. And yes, you're right....historically speaking, Christians have blood on their hands. But don't forget the big picture here ; THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE, AND THERE ARE BAD PEOPLE.
Fact of the matter of is, all people are spiritually good. It's just that the majority of them do bad things. Whether you beleive in God or not, we all come from the same place. So if you're religious, we all come from God. If not, we all come from evolution. Regardless of what your outlook on life is, we all started from the same point.

Try not to label people. Try to avoid looking at people as good or bad, or by religion. Understand that people who do bad things are coming from a different angle then you are. I think it's easy to shrug one's shoulders in disbelief when we see something awful in the news (I myself am very guilty of this) and think "How can people do these things?!" It's very hard to try and understand WHY they did it. Perhaps they were on drugs. Perhaps they were mentally ill. The list can go on and on.

To make a tired point.....don't read too much into it. :)

The Bible clearly says that towards the end, satan will come out with more and more. His time is growing short and he knows it, so he's going to do everything he can while he can.
God isn't the one responsible for evil. Usually it's just people following their own desires and lusts, but satan has his hand in there also.
Part of what the devil does is to attack the church, and he's been pretty good at causing division. Another thing is to make people look at the Bible and the church and think there can't be anything to it.
He's great at discrediting things.
