The best example is Gambling! But if you need something more, sports (related to gambling), industrial design (mean time between failure, chances at success, etc) (ALSO related to gambling through the stock market), and you always need it to complete a math degree (related to gambling because you are chancing a degree with help you get a higher paying job). So to sum it up, and be dead truthful, gambling drives all new statical applications and techniques. Chances are statistics wouldn't exist unless there was an increase in success to make money in some way.
