Satan is supposed to be a metaphor for the evil side of people, as far as I know anyway. Satan is what some people refer to as perverseness, a desire to do something wrong and harm oneself by doing so. But many religious people believe in an actual physical entity like Satan, and I believe this stems from a desire to blame someone else for one's own misdeeds. In almost every religion, there are evil entities along with the good- this is to inspire people to follow the good entity to protect them from the evil.
For example, Christians tell you that atheists will go to hell. They never directly say that God is completely responsible for taking a human being and sending him to a lake of fire for all eternity. Instead, it's the atheist's"choice" to go to hell, by following Satan's temptation. The fact is that the religious feel guilty about such beliefs, and thus look towards an evil, sadistic entity who is trying to harm us in order to justify the good of their own God.

I'ts funny because most people with a victim mentality that are true believers in God, blame God , not the Devil when they hit rock bottom. True believers, or in other words, members of God's Eternal Family have alway's realized that God is in control of everything including Satan. They understand that Lucifer would have no power except given by God. That's why when they can take no more Lucifer steps in and tells them it is Gods fault. In reality it is our fault for sinning and straying away from God. This is the way Lucifer keeps you away from God long enough until he convinces the person that he is the all powerful one. Once he has accomplished this then the person begins a life of total sin. After that the person will always blame The Devil because he has become this persons new god.

They kind of do , don't they. Then again I suppose it depends on your definition of "Satan", because if you think "he" (or she, or it, or whatever) is a kind of physical being, then you can blame it on them. Because after all, he's not going to argue back.
But for some people i think "Satan" is maybe less of a physical entity sort of thing, and more a kind of metaphor for all the evil and bad and stuff that there is in the world...i'm trying to think of another example, but i can't at the minute...but it's like this idea of the little guy with horns (if thats what someone personally thinks) personifies, or represents.
By blaming it on this thing, they
a)make the whole problem of evil more rational and understandable for themselves
b) maybe even convince themselves that the evil is not part of themselves but something they can't help.
I guess its typical scapegoat syndrome: make yourself feel better about something by telling yourself it's not your fault.

I don't blame my weaknesses on Satan. I have no problem saying I mess up daily. Satan doesn't make the decisions for me, I do. I don't know of any Christian who says Satan sins for them. He may tempt us, but the sin is all our fault.

Because the Devil does tempt people to do bad things. You are right in that these people do need to be strong enough emotionally not to give in to Satan! The way to gain that strength is by prayer. Asking God everyday for the Strength ,guidance and courage to face the day.We also need to ask God for protection! In this way we will be strong enough to fight Satan when he tries to tempt us into doing bad things.

I just don't understand why people don't blame their strengths on Satan. There he is, trying to win independence of thought, moral consciousness, and strength of will for you people and all you want to do is engaged in some type of blame game. Put your sins on the devil.
"He was broken for our sins." How ironic. Feel the vicarious atonement.
All the best,
Laz

Satan only has the power we give him. If we choose to live with a "victim" mentality...then they will always be a victim of someone or something.
Spiritual warfare is real, there's a reason that Paul teaches it in Eph. 6. We can learn to walk in victory, if we choose too.
However, Satan is not all powerful but he is the ruler of this world. Stop giving him power because he deserves NO GLORY!
Peace be with you and yours...

simple answer - because they can.
it's easier to blame things on an invisible being that you can't prove didn't have anything to do with it, than to own up to what you did. it let's you off the hook. also, other believers will have pity for you instead of hatred. they feel sorry for you that you were under satan's control. what better way to deal with something than to make even your victims think that you're not to blame, but a victim just like them!

I agree. Poor devil seems innocent.
I think god is the one who sounds most barbaric creature in whole fiction, judging from O.T.
God has killed more number of people than the ones by devil. I have never seen a devil hurt someone.
